Honestly, was the AA title game as good as it gets?

It was a great goal to some because they were cheering for EP. And you thought it wasn't great because your team was handed 2nd because of it.

In all honesty, I think you nailed it on the head with your Great hustle, play and goal comment. Rau capitalized on the opportunity because of his hunger and hustle.

A goal is a goal, regardless of it's beauty.

And again, not just Rau could have made that play.

Okay, lets take a look at the EP athletic program as a whole, shall we? There's this trophy out there called the challenge cup, awarded to one A and one AA high school every year that has the best athletic program overall. Since its inception four years ago, EP has won it three times. We have six football championships, two baseball championships (btw baseball got second in the nation in the legion world series this summer), countless individual and team cross country and track state championships, and one hockey championship, which is one more than Minnetonka. It's tough to be an Eagle because we're the team in EVERY sport that everyone is trying to beat. You can deny it all you want but it's the truth. We have had, indisputably, the BEST athletic program in the state three out of the last four years. Even the state high school league has recognized that. And by the way, you need a question mark at the end of that sentence. You know why I know that? Because we also have the most National Merit Finalists and AP scholars in the state. Out of anybody.
I must disagree. I know kids on the football team that I've never seen play a down. I know kids who are going to private schools primarily so they'll have opportunities to participate it sports and clubs. Not recruited away, but actively applying to other schools. How can you say you have a good athletic program when the percentage of athletes who can participate is too small. EP has too few opportunities for its huge enrollment. They made a bad choice all those years ago when they expanded the HS instead of constucting an EP East.

Easy prediction: this goal will be shown countless times on future State Tournament highlight tapes. If it wasn't a great goal then this won't be the case!

Very similar to the plays made by Neal Broten and Blake Wheeler when they dove for the puck and somehow managed to get the puck into the net and make the Gophers winners in those huge games. There's a reason why we've all seen those two goals replayed dozens of times, and Rau's goal will be no different.

False, any goal in triple OT of a state final would be shown on any highlight reel for the state tourney, if this was a goal in the middle of the second period, you can bet it wouldnt be on it.

Broten's and Wheeler's goals weren't tap-ins with the goaltender not only out of position, but not even in the camera's view. With Broten's goal in particular it was incredible he was able to get a shot off. Both goals were examples of unbelievable concentration and would have been great shots had the player been standing at the time. Rau's goal was great hustle. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, good for them. Don't quite understand the eye roll, Paulsen recognized the boys and girls champs which were both in his district.

I didn't say the three goals themselves were identical, or that one took more or less talent than the other two. But they were similar in that:

1. Each goal was scored when the player dove head first, fully extended on the ice, managing to get their stick on the puck and getting it to go into the net, using one hand. This type of goal in itself is unusual.

2. Each of the goals was the winner for his team, on a big stage in a huge game.

3. For the above two reasons these goals will continue to be shown multiple times every year, for good reason - which was my main point.
