I will never understand the MSHSL's affinity with putting Detroit Lakes in section 8. Stupid comes to mind as a word to describe it. Section 8 really doesn't need them, and section 6 is more geographical for them in my opinion.
I agree they add depth to 6A along with Northern Lakes. I was kind of expecting a northern team in 6A though to get moved into 8A like one of the Lakes teams or even Fergus Falls, I also though Willmar might have been moved into 3A.

ND hockey is a lot weaker then MN hockey. Whapeton Breck has never came close to competing in ND hockey. They havent even made the region tournaments in the last 3 years. It was a team to pad ur stats on. Dont understand why they wanted to move.

Are they actually moving????
They have been listed in MN sections before, but always competed in ND. It would be interesting if they are.

Enrollment there is 1276 with all schools cutoff is 1275 for AA. So they look to be the smallest AA school. They may decide to drop LeCenter from the coop which would take 173 students off and put them back in A. As to why 2AA, probably because they are closer to the West Metro than to Rochester,Etc.

I am a little surprised that there are no teams leaving 6AA, as it is still going to be a mini-tourney.

The mshsl doesn't care about competitive balance. They try to balance the number of teams in a section based on geography.
IF Wahp/Breck is switching to MN, where they would fit much better in 6a than their current situation in ND's East Region, it stands to reason that Detroit Lakes would be moved to 8a in order to give both sections 10 teams. DL is section 6a team that would fit best in 8a.
