My priest is a huge Hill fan and routinely brings the team up during the homily. He also comes and does masses at school. Other churches in the area are the same and a large chunk of the parishes went to HM. Hill hockey's kind of a big deal.
I know Cretin has a similar community feeling in Highland Park and Mac-Groveland. I don't know about the others though.
Does your priest also write for the HM Pioneer Press?
Where did most of these St Thomas kids play their yth hockey

I do not have the time or energy to double check my yearly facts, so I will be the first to admit if I am off with some things by a year or so.Howie wrote:So you are saying Jordan Schroeder did not go to STA for hockey as an 8th grader? In addition, where did the last 9 waves of players come from, did the Cadets not hire Vannelli to build a strong program 10-11 years ago? Wow,DotaDangler wrote:I went to STA, just a little joke. People don't go to St. Thomas, the only school of its kind in Minnesota, because it is convenient. I go to BSM (yes, I realize that according to high school hockey fans, that makes me a terrible person) and probably only 15% of the student body lives in St. Louis Park. Why should the hockey team be any different?
02-03 STA ended the season with 3 wins.
The St Thomas Ice Arena was complete for the 03-04 season, when the Cadets had two players transfer to the school who were not on the school's team the year before. I believe one of them had attended previously, but I am not sure. That year they had one section win and finished two games over .500.
04-05 was when Shroeder and Lee joined the program. They beat Virginia in the quarters then got shut out by Warroad and lost to Marshall, earning them 4th place.
05-06 they won state.
So no, he was not apart of the first wave of hockey players that went there and improved the program. Sure, he probably did attend mainly for hockey purposes, as many kids around the state do in many different sports. The comment was that the first wave of good players didn't go there for hockey, which is true, not that one specific player didn't, which would be false.

Ok, did not know that.longdistancespectator8 wrote:Howie you are completely right.
Dotadangler you are wrong.
Jordan Schroeder started the St. Thomas dynasty for the most part and he left to play there because the head coach at then just Lakeville did not allow him to try out for the varsity team as an 8th grader so he took his talents to st thomas

St Thomas Academy has grades 7-12.Howie wrote:What is the starting grade for their students, 9th? If so, how does an 8th grader get accepted? Just wondering, not familiar with the STA policies.
So, St Thomas is blamed for allowing a student at their school to play varsity hockey instead of blaming a coach for not allowing a student to play?

I dont think anybody was blaming STA for that, especially me. If you read my post it clearly stated I did not know their policy.HShockeywatcher wrote:St Thomas Academy has grades 7-12.Howie wrote:What is the starting grade for their students, 9th? No, you are not. What has been thrown around in the past is him being recruited away and then starting the evil empire in Mendota Heights. Information in this thread makes it seem more like he was pushed away and that had that not happened he and his family would've enjoyed more time there and his brother may be playing for them now.Howie wrote:I dont think anybody was blaming STA for that, especially me. Two win season and then in the state tournament two years later... ? This actually makes me sick. Community public programs work for decades for the hope of maybe someday sending a group to the state tournament and STA does THIS in class A? Anyone from STA that is proud of their fake plastic trophies can put them you know where.HShockeywatcher wrote:I do not have the time or energy to double check my yearly facts, so I will be the first to admit if I am off with some things by a year or so.Howie wrote:So you are saying Jordan Schroeder did not go to STA for hockey as an 8th grader? whats wrong with his statement. One of the main goals is to prepare kids for the cities high school program.GreekChurch wrote:PoniesDad45 wrote:I know two of them played on Stillwater's A Bantam team.
