Worst Thing About The Tourney?

If you want in then win!mj79 wrote: Agreed here.... STA is not even close to 100% .. They havent been since the 1st... more like 50% IMO and they are still scoring.. I agree tho , it would be more insulting ( TO me , if I was on NUs team ) to have them pass around and toy with me... Nothing you can do..
And THIS ladies and gents is why the "section assignments " are Complete BS... Because teams like Totino, Virgina, Warroad, etc etc cant play because joke teams like New ulm and Alexandria do... COmplete BS.. THe tournament should be the best of the best , Not a sympathy walk into the tourney because you have a weak section....
Look what AA Bemidji did to A Hermantown, the depth on your 2nd and 3rd lines at the AA level (which STA should be at) is just so superior to smaller schools.
Thing I hate most about the state tourney? SEEDINGS. Whats the point of going when almost every game is set up to be a lopsided drubbing. Whats wrong if Hermantown has to run into STA in the first round and New Ulm plays Alexandria? You'd probably get two highly competitive and entertaining games. If your going to win the title you've got to win anyways, shouldnt have to be seeded to get the first round "gimme".
That means nothing..
And NO im not the guy complaining about section assignments... Im the guy that cant stand seeing TOP TEAMS left out of the biggest HS event in the COuntry ... Seriously .. Like I just said.. Would you rather see 2 temas battle for 52 minutes, or a game like STA/NU where a team gives it a half assed attempt and 50% effort 1/2 the game..
pathetic

Of course I'd rather see two teams battle for 52 minutes than one team to get completely outclassed by another, but blowouts like that are going to be common if the MSHSL keeps seeding the top four teams.mj79 wrote:And look what Htown did to Grand Rapids, who on any other day would destroy Htown and Bemdji ....TheSiouxSuck wrote:Couldnt have said it better, so sick of hearing people complain that sections should be divided based on which teams are good. So in your opinion they should just do away with section playoffs and just make the state tourney the top 8 rated teams, just so the "top teams" arent left out? sounds pretty boring to me.
MJ79...
Did you play hockey? Do you coach hockey? Please make two sections of AA hockey that doesnt include Elk River, Andover, etc...There are not enough AA teams to even make two northern sections. By the way Brainerd is not in 7AA. You could put Moorhead, Duluth East, Roseau, Bemidji, Brainerd, Grand Rapids, Cloquet, and Tech all in the same section...but that would suck in my opinion. The state tourney is great cause usually there are two northern teams in it against the city schools.
Each section takes a middle point, and than takes the closest 8 teams or so to that mark. This is the most un political way of doing things.
Hill, GR, Wayzata, etc would all be great, but they didnt win their section. If you put them in the state tourney than there is nothing big about making it to the section championship. This is what makes the playoffs all the better, this is why the best hockey in my opinion are the section championships. Nothing beats a good section championship game.
The only thing in my opinion to make the state tourney better is let the two champs play an extra game. Play class A at Mariucci on Wednesday, and AA at the X...then move the 4 winners to the X on Thursday from each section...and the championship in each class on Friday...than the winners of each class in an all or nothing game on Saturday night. Now that would be one heck of an atmosphere!!

I don't have a problem with how 7AA and 8AA is aligned. 7AA could be an all-north section but in the absence of teams opting up, we have what we have as a result.Tigers33 wrote:MJ79...

Why so teams with the guts to play AA like BSM and Roseau get to sit home while STA get to trophy hunt? STA, Warroad, and the like have a chance to win the AA title already, they choose A hockey instead. They don't deserve a chance to play the AA champion any more than UMD deseved a shot at Auburn.Tigers33 wrote: The only thing in my opinion to make the state tourney better is let the two champs play an extra game. What I hate most about the Tourney
Listening to Clay Matvick doing 14 consecutive games over 4 days. I'm going to have to start going to all the sessions live!

Wow, this may be the best comment I've heard on this subject in some time.crickett75 wrote:Goldy313, making sense since March 2002.goldy313 wrote:

Anyway, the worst thing would have to be St. Thomas' ridiculous sense of accomplishment of winning in the class A state tournament.
Warroad is sitting home, too.goldy313 wrote:Why so teams with the guts to play AA like BSM and Roseau get to sit home while STA get to trophy hunt? I agree with TheSiouxSuck, the seedings absolutely kill the atmosphere of these games. A couple upsets here or there don't quite cut it for me. Look back to when there were no seedings...games were a lot closer, and there was a better atmosphere surrounding quarterfinal games.

So that the top two teams in the tournament can meet in the first round? The seedings do a great job of weeding out the teams from weak sections that, quite frankly, don't deserve to be there. The atmosphere may not be as good during the first day of games but the atmosphere at the semifinals and championship games more than makes up for it. In my opinion, they should seed all 8 teams.bubblehockey27 wrote:I agree with TheSiouxSuck, the seedings absolutely kill the atmosphere of these games. Gotta win anyway right? The 05 tournament was great IMO, and there were plenty of high caliber teams meeting in the first round. There is of course the problem you mentioned, and the weaker teams that come out of weaker sections (more obvious in class A). It wouldn't be the first time two top ranked teams met in the quarters though. You have to win three games regardless, and to me, a 1v3 and a 1v2 championship game is almost expected. Add some more excitement/unpredictability to the tournament!Roseauverrated wrote:So that the top two teams in the tournament can meet in the first round? people saying teams from weaker sections dont deserve to be at the tournament. according to you lakeville north didnt deserve to be there but yet somehow managed to beat 2 teams from deserving sections..Roseauverrated wrote:So that the top two teams in the tournament can meet in the first round?
