Using this forum for an in your face taunt of any high school kids is completely uncalled for. Good natured ribbing to and from both sides is a completely different thing. I'll gladly take it if it's only every dozen or more games.
The section 4AA tournament is White Bear's state tournament. Beating Hill is their entire season, which is why they have proven unable to make it past the first round.
Will the White Bear kids be wearing tee shirts bearing homage to Hill, like they did in 1989 when they bore the caption, "Where the Hill are ya?" I have rarely felt so honored. The Pioneers cast a shadow over the tournament, even when they aren't there.
Now remember, 94 west, PAST the Xcel Energy exit to the Oak Street exit, first arena west of the Bank.

Re: HM - WBL
Oh my god you guys c'mon give em a break, they're students and they chant and harrass other teams, that's what happens and its just all in good fun, I've seen plenty of "classless" acts by the little private school angels from hill murray, but i think its funny and i give them props for coming up with the chants. So get over it because it's never gonna changestpaul wrote:Nobody from HM has called out a WBL kid by name on this board in any of the past 6 years. That - plus the tampon chant when is a kid is injured and bleeding - plus chanting while the HM kids got their runnerup medals - are all classless.
However Coach Sager and the WBL team showed a lot of class during the handshakes and medal ceremonies. They know what it's like to be on the other side and were obviously very gracious. Impressive. Too bad their idiot students didn't do the same.

Re: HM - WBL
Have to laugh, or perhaps shake my head, at messages like this one. Starts off with what appears to be sincere congratulations to White Bear Lake for a big and unexpected win, but ends with a sarcastic swipe.stpaul wrote:Congrats to Coach Sager and the Bears. They earned this one. They outworked HM last night. ... Good luck at State. Semifinal Friday is a lot of fun. They should try it this time.
So much for sincerity. Sour grapes, perhaps?

Now that shows some good class and sportsmanship from the pioneers we all know and love

I have to laugh every time I hear any sports announcer give the most meaningless statistic around, e.g., "The Vikings are 21 and 33 all-time against the Bears." As if results from 2, or 5, or 10 years ago have any meaning or significance.Northsider wrote:2011: ?

Nice win. Now it's time to see if the school that blew a two goal lead in the first state tournament game ever played can finally win a state game in their 18th trip to St Paul.
I'm sure the current WBL team is haunted and will be deeply affected by their predecessors' state tournament loss to Thief River Falls 66 years ago.

very impressive coordinated wardrobe by White Bear student section..not only loud but....first period 99.9% wearing bright ORange..then they all changed..second period they were 99.9 Black outfits.......then again ..another change 99.9% White for the third..if they had a 4th change for an e OT It would have been an all timer,,, but well done there by the bear fans..I Can give them a mulligan on tampon..Bahe was off the ice by then under is own power, clear a mouth or tooth type injury..... cheering "I ..think ...we...did...win this game etc. etc. etc.".. during the always somewhat boring medal ceremony was fine.....st paul you have to just let some things go and smile a bit more! they came to play, they started better, the fans blew out the hill fans in all areas other than the bands which were even...
Let's take a deep breath everyone...
HM lost; I know it sucks for some of you fans, but be happy with what HM has accomplished. HM had 5 straight State appearances (one of them included a STATE TITLE). Be happy with what HM's program has accomplished in their HISTORY. HM will be back next year with this game in mind; you can count on that.
WBL, Congrats! And I really do mean Congratulations for being Section 4AA champions and State tourney participants. You played a great game against your rivals and won when it really mattered! I'll admit I picked HM to win; HOWEVER, I also mentioned WB had a chance if and only if they played their best game of the year. And that is what WB did!
Best of luck to WB at State. Although they still have this opening round curse; all of these "curses" must end at some point. Best of luck!

Booooooo Whooo St. Paul
We have had to read your recent history break down of the rivalry for what seems to be once a week for the last 6 years. Dont dish it if you cant take it.
Sour grapes is right
GET OVER IT, you lost.
The kid in question deserves some ribbing, no question.
He left the team he had played with, to jump ship and play for an all star team.
Well you dont always get what you want kiddo.
Keep telling yourselves he went to Hill for the education.........'cause it aint. Get real. And St.paul, too bad you lost.
Here is the only meaningful history for this year
To st. paul:

That is a slap in the face, not to one kid WBL, but the whole team.
Pot calling the kettle black i'd say.
Im not one to beat aroud the bush, and sarcastically sugarcoat it like all the HM fans are on this forum.
At least I can be direct and rip the kid, ad by kid i mean an 18 year old senior. Have fun next week bud, cause i know Wahli birki and company certaily will.

Never thought I'd say this, let alone witness it, but Sager outcoached Lex. HM didn't appear to be ready in the Semis leading 2-1 only going into the 3rd. Then in the finals, WBL jumped all over them from the drop of the puck and executed a game plan that Lex seemed to have no answer for. Lex also had no answer for the Bear's PK (I believe the Pioneers were 1-5). Kudos for Sager for getting his kids to buy into the idea they could beat HM and executing it to a section title. Shame on Lex on not having this group better prepared at the time when it mattered the most. Perhaps it's time to hire a 3rd line former NHL player with no coaching experience to take over for him.

Schultz is the best player on the team and they had a great 4 years of hockey... Anyways I belive the Hill kids started chanting "Mr hockey" refering to ben bahe who seconds later missed a wide open net... Greatest feeling ever.. I think he probably should have changed his tam......
UntouchableFlow wrote:In regards to Schulze, he made two trips to the state tournament, including playing in the greatest game in the State tourney game in recent years. Not only that, but he sported a 6-1 record against the Bears, one slight redirection from Hill and it would have been 7-0.
no one can take a little joking on the internet these days, think it is time to lighten up a little, jeez. And this is for both sides.
Schulze will be fine, im sure he is happy for his guys at WBL. Most of the players from both teams are friends. I think it might be the fans who take this stuff just a little too seriously

This "jab" was for all WBL kids who jumped to HM over the years. I only threw his name out there because he was the best of the group, and one of the best players on HM. Im sure he doesnt care a bit about what some poster says on a forum, but all these passive-agressive HM fans sure do.

A couple of classic lines from an article posted on Hockey Hub.
Just 1 minute, 33 seconds into the second overtime, White Bear Lake scored and the Pioneers’ dream vanished. Hill-Murray players received their section medals attached to red ribbons — the color of second place. Lechner would later grab a medal out of the locker room trash can.[/i]
Where does that fit in regard to class acts?
The subject turned to Lechner’s sweater — green with horizontal white stripes and black trim to denote school colors — that he has long worn for luck in section final games. Friday’s loss not only ended a promising season, but it also became a good occasion for putting away symbols of past glory.
“The next time I wear this, it’ll be in my casket,” Lechner said. “That party is over.”[/i]
Long live the sweater!!!
Go Bears
Good luck at state

What about the 1982 Mariners reaching the finals ? Same city and the schools are now combined. Some hope exists. The Gumper wrote:I have to laugh every time I hear any sports announcer give the most meaningless statistic around, e.g., "The Vikings are 21 and 33 all-time against the Bears."
