Who wins it ??

Post by HappyHockeyFan »

EP is the team to beat in my opinion and the team I would put my money on, but in this crazy year its anybody's guess...there is sure to be upsets like there has been all season. Sorry Lakeville North is not on the poll, I must have been out of room, no disrespect intended. Let me add in respect to my Wildcats, that even though I dont feel they are a favorite to win it all, I do know that they can play with anybody in this field would not be surprised to see them make a very strong run.

I love how WBL is leading in votes. One win over an overrated Private school and they think they can beat the likes of EP and Edina. I have them as the other 0-2 team.

HM was not overrated. Every one of the 8 teams in the state tournament has a realistic chance of taking home the title. The team that wins it will have to be good, and have some luck to go along with it.

Really? LVN? WBL? Blaine?

I disagree. The teams with a realistic chance of taking it home are EP, Edina, and DE. Eagan and Moorhead aren't quite there. The rest of them...thanks for playing and enjoy the experience. I see a clear divide between the top 3 and everybody else.

It is state tourney time and amazing things can happen. I agree that the probability of LVN winning it all is much smaller than Edina's or EP's, but it is not zero. History is waiting to be written, should be a great tourney.

LVN over EP would be a bigger upset. That is tounge-in-cheek of course, I should disclose this because a lot of people can't understand sarcasm over the internet. But really, yes I understand upsets happen but the vast majority of the time they do not. I am not too worried about EP not getting at least to the finals with the pairings now released.

For some reason I just have a gut feeling Moorhead is going to come out of nowhere and take this one. No one's talking about them but they're a solid team with a solid system and I'm thinking they're going under the radar.

White Bear Lake just won arguably the biggest game in school history knocking off there arch rival hill murray and doing so becoming only the 2ND TEAM ALL YEAR to put up 5+ goals against them. This is the last team i would want to play in state. Bears to make a deep run.

Blaine tied Edina and beat East...I would say although not a great chance, you can't count them out like they wont pose a threat

An opposing hot goalie, players trying to do too much or costly turnovers can send any one of the listed teams to the consolation bracket.

Good luck to all of the teams. Enjoy the ride! Playing in the State High School Hockey Tournament is a great experience and will become an exceptional memory for those involved.

I can't help but notice that every year in the WBL/HM thread, White Bear seems to be leading in the poll, yet all the posters seem to be saying that Hill will win.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that White Bear has the most members on this forum, which is not necessarily a good thing!

I do agree that Lakeville North is likely to go 0-2, but, with a goalie like Lindgren, anything is possible. As I posted in the LVN/EP game thread, North had a lead over EP through 2 period of play. So if they were to pull off that upset, they would meet up with the Eagan/Moorhead winner. North split with Eagan and I would not have Moorhead as a huge favorite over North either. It would be one major upset, and one mild to medium upset (depending on who wins the Eagan/Moorhead game) to get to the finals. It was just 2 years ago, everyone had Edina walking to the championship only to get upset by a 15 win Moorhead team (who no one gave a chance) that went on to reach the final. It is fun to watch the best teams make it to the final, but if that doesn't happen, it is also pretty fun to watch a hot goalie lead their team to victories. In March, anything and everything can happen.

People may not be talking about them but if you look at the Eagan vs. Moorhead thread they are getting a lot of respect, currently at 65% vote to win. For a team that beat Wayzata twice I'm pretty sure they aren't going "under the radar"?

I agree. I'm a WB fan, along with many other teams, and I'm embarrassed by the lack of class WB fans have on this forum. All the negativity is why I left the forum years ago, and when I came back this year, I found much less negativity and much more well though and competent posts. I should have known playoff and a match up against HM would bring out the worst in WB fans. Knock HM all you want, they have class, their fans, their coach and definitely their players, all have class. And I think Sager is starting to have some too, along with his new coaches. Good luck to WB, I want to watch you on TV on Friday, break the curse!
