12U A Regional Predictions
Nobody else is hitting this so I fiugured I might as well. Any predictions for regions? Here are the line ups for the first round. As far as I can tell, the top teams all made it. Gonna be some great hockey played this coming weekend. The only upset I can see is that OMG didn't make it through. Other than that, any one else feel like there were some other teams that could have made it to regions
Olympic
Alexandria vs. Grand Rapids
Roseau vs. Moorhead
Duluth vs. Thief River Falls
Warroad vs. Detroit Lakes
National
Woodbury vs. North Wright County
Mound Westonka vs. Rochester
Wayzata vs. Eagan
Lakeville South vs. Armstrong Cooper
American
Chaska Chanhassen vs. Blaine
Elk River vs. Stillwater
Centennial vs. Edina
White Bear Lake vs. Minnetonka
Olympic
Alexandria vs. Grand Rapids
Roseau vs. Moorhead
Duluth vs. Thief River Falls
Warroad vs. Detroit Lakes
National
Woodbury vs. North Wright County
Mound Westonka vs. Rochester
Wayzata vs. Eagan
Lakeville South vs. Armstrong Cooper
American
Chaska Chanhassen vs. Blaine
Elk River vs. Stillwater
Centennial vs. Edina
White Bear Lake vs. Minnetonka
That American Region is stacked. They should have separated D6 and D10. problem is D6 keeps shrinking. But those 3 teams and the 3 from D10 could all go to state.
The National region is less competetive and I would be shocked if Woodbury, Wayzata and Lakeville South didn't advance.
We've only seen half the teams in the Olympic, and none of those would make it out of the American regional. Which should trigger a discussion of seeding the regions, but the controversy attached might be too heavy.
Go Blue.

@U10 Pretentious and passive agressive wrapped around a whine.
Nice job! Sounds like excuses before the puck has dropped! Us hicks up here in Duh-Luth are fortune-it to be playing with you City-its. Thank you for including us. Maybe it's just as well, so teams like Blaine, White Bear and Minnetonka will have a chance to beat us, seeing as they didn't get it done when we played them. Same goes for Woodbury, Eagan and NWC. Centennial beat us, just like everyone else in their 92 game schedule. (Just kidding. Sort of.) The way I see it is that Centennial should take first and second, and the rest should play for consolation. If not, we should let the girls play and see how it shakes out. I bet the two best teams will play each other in the end. There is always room for surprises, especially with teams like Mound Westonka, Rochester, Warroad, Alexandria and yes, Duluth. And then, when the season is over, you can whine about the coulda and shouldas.

Whoa, take it easy Hard Water. U10 isn't totally off base. Last time I looked LPH placed 6 of the 8 teams in the American Region in the top 10 12U teams in the state, 2 in the National Region are there, and none of the Olympic teams are ranked. However, we all know that LPH rankings are not necessarily comprehensive, and records don't mean a whole lot this time of year. Good luck to all the teams.
Hard Water...it seems you have already reserved your spot at State?????? Always have that Yapper running. Take a moment to step away from your childish, petty insults and enjoy the weekend.
Our 92 game schedule included some very solid teams in TRF, Warroad, Roseau, and Rapids.....which I believe are in your Region! Make it through the weekend and then take your shots at the teams in the American and National Regions.
All the girls have a tough weekend of hockey ahead of them! This year it is wide open regardless of Region.
Good luck to all teams!

Grab the tweezers, Bighead has reared again. I'm sorry Todd, I guess I should have written it in crayon for you. If you would tuck your forehead up and take the time to read what I was responding to, my comment wouldn't seem so out of place. The thread is about REGIONS. A statement dismissing the teams from Olympic Region as second tier is not only insulting, but wrong, just as you willingly pointed out. My point about your schedule and place in hockey history isn't a slam either. All of my comments about Centennial have been earnest- both public and private.
LPH- great magazine, although the rankings are about as accurate as a bottle rocket without a stick. Dismissing teams like Stillwater and Mound Westonka dosen't seem quite right, especially when they won their respective divisions. As far as anyone being a lock for State- that's just plain foolish. Just ask the good folks from OMG. They had as good a team as any.

Anyone familiar with why there are 3 regions as opposed to two or four? Mathematically it is a bit odd.
A few years ago my daughter finished third in the American region. A friend of hers finished third in the Olympic region. Having played each other at an invitational I'd say the teams were evenly matched. But there we were contending for the championship while our friends had to be content with playing host. Just didn't feel right.

@Hockey Dad- You've got 9 of 10 in American and National, and nothing coming out of Olympic. What region is missing? Besides, you can't really credit a ranking system that relies solely on submitted scores, can you? The majority of the teams listed don't have half their schedules listed. Besides, how accurate can a system be that doesn't have Centennial at #1, or at the least in the top three??

So let me just confirm:
The Olympic Region is composed of D11/12 (3 teams in 12A), D15 (5 teams), and D16 (6 teams), a total of 14 teams. They conducted District playoffs and eliminated a total of six teams. That's correct, right?
It occurs to me that we might be better served by holding 4 regions, lump D11/12 in with D8, lump D15 in with D3, lump D16 in with D10. Put 6 teams in from the big districts, two from each of the nothern ones. Then put 4 teams from D2 with 4 from D6. There would be virtually equal number of teams feeding each region. Then play those regions and send two teams each to state. Hold one of those regions up north, rotate among D15, D16, D11/12.
I bet your regionals and your state tourney will be more competetive. Just do the math in your own head and see what that State field looks like compared to how it looks in a week or so.

@ Hard water, what is with the Centennial bashing? I, as you well know, am a Centennial dad and have several friends on teams from the Olympic region, as does my daughter. Last year, we ended up playing Roseau for the consolation at state and it went into 5 overtimes before the game ended. We here in Centennial have nothing but respect and admiration for our friends from the Olympic region. They always produce great competition accompanied by even better parents and kids. With every trip to Warroad, Roseau, Thief, Moorhead, we are constantly reminded of how great hockey and the hockey community are. That being said.

Red Dad- I have no beef with you or 99% of your team. Actually, you have some very cool parents whom Ive enjoyed talking with the last few years. Much of my cynicism is aimed at Todd. Do a history on him and read his posts. I believe most of my statements are accurate, laced with sarcasm. When I say that Centennial deserves the #1 rank, I mean it. When I add for infinity, I'm being sarcastic. I appreciate the northern kudos, I too think we have a good group. Certainly not worthy of dismissal...

Re: 12U A Regional Predictions
I am not going to get into a debate about what teams should be in what region, I am just going to pick the teams that I think will win the first round of the regions. The bottom line is all of these girls have played hard and have earned a shot to have fun and play hockey. Could there be other teams still playing sure, that is always the case, that is why they call it the playoffs...good teams get upset and sometimes teams that shouldn't win, end up winning the game. That is what makes the sport so much fun, and the playoffs so exciting!!
Good luck to all the girls and teams still playing!!
Olympic
Alexandria
Roseau
Duluth
Warroad
National
Woodbury
Mound Westonka
Wayzata
Armstrong Cooper
American
Chaska Chanhassen
Elk River
Centennial
Minnetonka
