MN D-1 Games and Television

Post by Govie »

Just wondering...now in the TC we have yet another public access channel which has shown quite a few Beavers games this year, and I'm wondering, since I'm a Huskies fan why can't I get their games more regularly (outside of a Gophs game)?

It would be nice to have access to all 5 of our D-1 schools' games on TV - especially in the cities - but this is not the case.

It would be nice if all the schools TV packages were as nice as UM and BSU, but that's their problem...

Bemidji State is fortunate to be in a town where the local PTV channel took an interest, invested in resources (HD cameras, etc.) and the Minnesota Channel took notice - and picked up their games. Since SCSU and MSU (which televises their games on local Charter cable) and UMD (the local My affiliate - My9) aren't able to secure that kind of a TV deal, they lose out.

Realisticaly, if you want lots of college hockey (and MN college at that), Charter or Midco cable is th way to go. Charter has set up the Main Street channels, where they share the MSU and SCSU games around the state (plus you would get the Goph and BSU ones too)

And Midco usually picks those games up, and also has the Midco Sports Network too:

which grabs some of the UND games from the Fighting Sioux Sports Network...

Good info.

I figured there might be some sort of package deal (like DirecTV has for some sports). I will check into that for sure.
