Hockey Day 2012

Post by iamsimple »

Now that hockey day 2011 is over, who would you like to see play on hockey day 2012 and where?

In Roseville, on the oval. I believe they skate there until April!

I would like to see rivals play on hockey day MN. So people who don't get the chance to see some of these great rivals play, get a chance to see it on TV. Ex: Warroad vs Roseau, Duluth East vs Cloquet, just to name a couple.

I definitely saw a handful of people wearing Grand Rapids' gear wandering around yesterday. I think it's good to get a feel for what the event entails by being at one...good for the Rapids' contingent to do so.

 Wow, how things have changed in the past few years.

A DE-GR game on Hockey Day would be amazing, especially next year. Question is, will the coaches want such an important game to be affected by the whims of the weather? Most of the Hockey Day matchups have pitted good teams, but haven't had any real meaning when it comes to sections or conferences...

This would be a non issue if the Hockey Day celebrations were held mid to late January.

I agree the odds for harder ice would be much better in mid-January, but it can still SNOW. Hermantown had both soft ice AND snow in 2009 and it impacted all 3 games. While I agree they would be fun to watch, there is just too much on the line from a sectional standing for most of the rivalry games to be played on Hockey day. The North/South format is always fun.....just think of a GRapids vs. Edina game next year!

I think the reason they went to the mid Feb is the girls are in playoffs, therefore they don't have to waste time and money on a girls game.
