Reality Check

It's the 2010-2011 season not 2009-2010. Fulton, Russell, the Borers and Morin are all graduated. Breck is a quality team yes and maybe the most impressive of Lourdes' wins this season but honestly Breck hasn't beaten anyone impressive. Oh sorry they did beat SCC 6-4, but otherwise Breck doesn't have much on the resume for being a highly touted Class A team. Breck's highlights of the season are mostly close losses like the lost to STA (5-4) or lost to Delbarton Academy, NJ (3-2), but all nonetheless are losses.

If not Lourdes coming out of 1A

1. Who will beat them
2. Who will come out of 1A (if the team that beats Lourdes doesnt win section)
I think anyone of the top 4 or five teams has the capabilty of beating Lourdes.

Lourdes beat NP by 2 goals twice, if Lourdes looks past them they will be done.

Lourdes beat RW in OT, enough said

Lourdes beat West by 1 goal, can lose to this team any day

Lourdes beat AL by 4, That will not happen again

Lourdes beat Fari by 3, take away the second period and it was a pretty even game

Who ever wins this section is going to have beat 2 decent teams. The above games have not convinced me that Lourdes has this section locked, to me it looks like they are ready for the picking (they are fortunate to win all the close games) Lourdes is good team, they are not great. Congrats to them, they did just have a nice win on saturday. I'm looking forward to the AL vs West game on tue...

As a West fan, I have to admit Lourdes beating Breck is a statement for the Eagles. Also, Lourdes beat Monticello last week 4-1, and Monticello only lost to #2 Hermantown 2-1 yesterday. Seems Lourdes is very legit.

Anything can happen in sections, of course.

OK, now how about a little credit for R. Lourdes?
Two biggest reasons for diss'ing success
1. Haven't routed anyone 22-0
2. Section mates still feel embarassed by Warroad debacle

Lourdes will be a VERY tough out because of the defense. Three senior blues and a very competent senior goaltender have put the clamps on some of the top scorers in the state at AL, MW, Delano,..... Not terrifically imposing on offense but points are spread around pretty deep and can wear teams down with three pretty competent lines. I was the first to give the Lourdies grief about hotel res's in STP, but gotta give credit where due. :?

I would like to give Lourdes some credit from giving STA a good battle. Sounds like they are starting to click.

Albert Lea caught a flat footed Mankato West team at the start and were able to cash in 4 goals in the first 6 minutes of the game. Capitalizing on their chances made by West mistakes were vital because Mankato West fought almost all the way back with a 5-4 game in the 3rd but the empty net nails in the coffin. The Scarlets dug themselves a hole they couldn't get out of.

Wangen made some great saves to keep the Tigers ahead. Kaufman was pulled and Fox was put into the game played well allowing only 1 goals on a breakaway. West was knocking on the door almost all night. West definitely looked like the better team in the 2nd and 3rd period, but their horrible start in the 1st cost them the game.

Mankato West has still yet to ever win in Albert Lea City Arena. Albert Lea is one of the hottest teams in the section.

On another note, Lourdes is playing real good hockey, their last regular season game is on Thursday will be interesting how they do with a week break and then some more assuming they get the Bye during sections being a top 4 seed.

with a loss to albert lea last night. do you think that west now deserves the 4th seed and new prague with the 3rd??

NP's loses: albert lea. lourdes(x2)
west loses: albert lea, lourdes and NP

i think that it makes sense regardless the scores, a wins a win

The ticket to the State Tournament is beating Rochester Lourdes. They can be beat , but is there a team that can beat them when it counts?

In the Past few years it's been Rochester Lourdes or Red Wing. This year Red Wing seem alittle down. It should be a good section tourney this year. It will be fun to see if any team can knock Lourdes out. " EH. "

I think cases can be made with both. NP might have the edge over West with that OT win. Both teams have suffered at least one bad lost this season. West's being their lost to Marshall and NP's recent lost to Chanhassen definitely fills some doubt in both teams. Will be interesting how the seeds come out. NP's Missota conference definitely helps them, but West has some good games vs. Missota conference opponents that can give a good comparison between the games. Also Mankato West has beaten Albert Lea something that New Prague was unable to do in the regular season.

Head to head definitely counts the most, but so early in the season (West's first game of the season) will be interesting how much that hurts West's case for the 3rd seed.

Albert Lea almost definitely locks up a #2 seed, with mostly (if not all) Big 9 teams remaining including some of the cellar dwellers of the conference such as Mankato East and Austin. Barring an upset of the ages, Albert Lea will hold on to that #2 seed. #3 seed is under debate now between West and NP. Four will go to almost definitely to one of those two teams.

Don't be dissin' on Chan there my redfacedfriend.

Both Chan games against NP were 2-1 games, with each team winning on home ice. Chan has also taken Holy Angels to OT twice this season.

For a first year club they are currently 9-10-1 overall and 5-6-0 in the Missota where everyone figured they would finish dead last.

Also don't forget it looks like Fbo handled Chanhassen pretty easily at Chan with a 4-0 win. I don't know what that could do to the seedings if anything, but NP looks like they did have trouble with them.

It will be interesting how the seedings work out with just a couple games left in the regular season.

top 4 seeds

lourdes (the clear and obvious)
albert lea (after beating west it pretty much locks it in)
NP (win over west)
West (losing to same teams as NP and the overtime loss.)

the NP and West seeds is interesting. im not sure how much the early season is taken into account but since NP did come out with the win i think that they deserve the 3rd seed and west with teh 4th

Faribo come back?

Post by ilikecars2 »

It looks like faribault may be having a come back. Goalie, Aaron Forgaard looks like he is starting now and is paying exceptionally well. It seems they have 2 solid forward lines and a 3rd that is ok. Looking at the roster, it looks like they finally have everybody back.

Scarlet.....I know it's hard not to be biased and overall you do a nice job. The real reality check is if everyone is "close" to Lourdes does that mean your beloved Scarlets would fall in OT to St. Thomas as well. I think a blowout would be more the case. Your squad has been a tad overrated all year....and ending up with a #4 seed would be about right. If not for Ville, they might have been a true middle of the pack team....good recruiting away from East. Putting it out there....I will say next year they will be bottom 5 of 1A.

I don't think I'd say that. Albert Lea and Mankato West will be two very young squads..Mankato's Bantam A has the top record in all of District 9, which includes two Rochester teams.http://www.mndistrict9hockey.com/standi ... ason=36040

I know the jump from bantam to high school is a great one, but West has a bright future, along with Albert Lea to make an impact in Section 1A.

sections

Post by therockets »

Chalk_talk - I agree anything can happen in sections, it is a new season, its entertaining. But as you showed Lourdes has beat everyone from section one they have played. They do year in and year out play a harder schedule, when it comes to "top ranked" teams. Although we might not think they will win, they have to be, have to be the favorite in section 1. Section 1 right now does go through Rochester not only because the tourney is there, but because of Lourdes. GO ROCKETS.

Right on the money Scarlet. What a weird game, 4-0 right out of the gate.

I predict that Mankato West or Albert Lea represents 1A at the X in March. Lourdes stays home this year.

Well ALbert Lea, while certainly deserving a number 2 seed, and playing good hockey of late, plays a weak schedule for rest of year (combined record 22-65-1)

LHS still plays Rogers and Totino--(combined record 30-10-1)

LHS has played well v Breck and STA and kept the momentum by pounding Owatonna tonight

I think strength of schedule favors Lourdes-and I think Lourdes is peaking now

So, I predict Lourdes walks to Xcel....
