bb's weekly JGA Top 10 (1-30-11)

Post by blueblood »

As I promised, here is my weekly JGA update and Duluth Aerials preview:

1 – Tonka. Remain at #1. They are still undefeated in league play, with a lone tie to Stillwater. Because of their recent string of games in visiting the penalty box and losing 5 fpp's, they now trail Wayzata by 3 points with 9 games remaining in league play. These two teams do not face each other in league play in February, but will meet in Duluth. They have 2 tough league games left against Edina & EP. Tonka will be playing in Duluth.

2 – Wayzata. Stay in the #2 slot and have the inside track to the Metro League regular season title and the coveted #1 seed for JGA regional tourney. They have a big game against Lakeville tonight and 3 other games against upper level teams including: EP, Edina & Lakeville (again). Wayzata will be playing in Duluth.

3 – EP. Survived a difficult stretch of games going 2-1-2 with wins over Stillwater and Wessy, ties to Edina & White Bear and a loss to #1 Tonka. EP is slowly catching up in games and must play Tonka (tomorrow), Burnsville and Wayzata in league play. EP will not be in Duluth.

4 – Edina. Move up from my #6 slot to #4. Tied EP and soundly thumped Lakeville 5-0. They made their second tournament final at the WBL Jeffrey Hayne Memorial this week versus da Bears, but bb doesn’t know the outcome. Edina is not a participant in Duluth.

5 – Lakeville. The impressive streak of 8 consecutive wins ended with a 5-0 thumping by the 2-time defending State champs from Edina. They have difficult two games against Wayzata and a season closing game against Burnsville that may affect the final standings. Lakeville will be in Duluth.

6 – Burnsville. Have won 3 of their last four, with the loss to Tonka is a wild frenzied game on the ice and in the stands. The Blaze have played the most games in the Metro league with 18. Of their 6 remaining games they face: Edina, EP and Lakeville. Burnsville will be in Duluth.

7- Stillwater. The Stillwater goalie showed why he is the #1 JGA goalie in the Tonka game with the Ponies earning a 2-2 tie. Stillwater will be in Duluth.

8 – WBL. The Bears are hanging around and faced Edina in their own JGA tournament championship. The Bears do not travel to Duluth.

9 – Centennial. Haven’t heard much from the Cougars lately as they have only played 2 league games in the past two weeks. They managed a win over Eagan and a tie to WBL. Centennial will not be in Duluth.

10 – Vacated. Blue will not rank a 10th team this week, because no one in the bottom 6 deserves to be considered a top 10 team.

Duluth Preview:

The finale of the JGA regular season tournaments takes place next weekend in Duluth. blue will make the trek up north up I-35 to the hockey hotbed of Duluth to take in some JGA action along with the Saturday night Gopher vs. Bulldog game at the new Amsoil Arena.

I'm guessing that Blue Blood is basing his rankings, at least partially, on the Metro League standings and since your team has yet to turn in scores to the metro league for the 18, 19, 21, 25 & 27th games or at the very least they haven't been posted this might explain why your team is ranked where it is.... if I were you I'd go look at the Metro League website and check the standings and game schedule for your team.... www.metrohockeyleague.org

JGA top 10

Thanks for the input T-Train. As the hockeychic stated, blue can't rank what blue don't know.

Tell your coach to get with the program and send in the game results.

A good showing in Duluth will get you noticed by blue, especially with wins over perennial powers Ep and Edina.

Bragen - send in the Wayzata results asap....

top 10

Post by blueblood »

Wow, I have a JGA follower asking for my new top 10. You just made my day Olan767!

Here's my final regular season top 10. Look for my next edition after the Metro regular season is complete and just before the regional tournament in Blaine.

1) Wayzata - beat #1 Tonka for the first time this season in Duluth, 3-2, and went on to claim the 'ship 8-1 over Duluth. bb predicted a big win for tonka in the finals (5-1) over Duluth. I'm not surprised with Wayzata beating Duluth as they were my #2 choice to beat Duluth in the finals.

Note to Butch: Spread out the talent next year. That's two years in a row you put tonka and wayzata in the same pool and they both have taken the 'ship over your squad (tonka in 2010 and wayzata in 2011).

2) Tonka - losing the game to Wayzata might end up being a good thing for Tonka. They didn't have to play the 2 extra games on Sunday, which can be a grind. I still have them as my top team to claim the title in Duluth that everyone wants: the 2011 JGA State Championship.

3) Lakeville - won their pool in Duluth as I predicted, but dropped two games on Sunday, the first to Wayzata and the 3rd place game to SLP.
I had a great time chatting with the Lakeville boys during the Wayzata vs. Tonka game at Freezeburger. Have a BIG rematch with SLP in the game that counts in the standings on Tuesday this week.

4) Edina - appear to have stabilized their ship and they are back on track. Coach Bill Smith knows that late February and March are what matters most.

5) EP - Winners of 4 of their last 5. Looking into my crystal ball I see the Eagles winning 6 of their last 8 and finishing strong.

6) SLP - finally, the SLP/BSM/Hopkins boys are putting up the wins that I expected earlier in the season. This team is almost a carbon copy of last yeard team that started slow and finished strong, losing their final region game to ER. I wouldn't want to be playing this team right now.

7) Burnsville - lost to SLP in Duluth and just seem to be stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear this season. Finishing 6th or 7th means your in the same pool as the #1 team, which looks to be Wayzata. Not a great spot to be in.

8) Centennial

9) WBL

10) Stillwater

I see these 3 teams battling it out to stay out of the single elimination play-in games at regions. Keeping their fpp's will be key. White Bear has more fpp's that Stilly and Centennial, so it likes like it will come down to Centennial and Stilly. Current standings for these 3 teams are:

dabears: (6-7-4) with 15 of 17 fpp's = 31 points
cougars: (8-8-1) with 9 of 17 fpp's = 26 points
Mylittleponies: (6-8-2) with 12 of 16 fpp's = 26 points
