What is happening with Duluth East?

Post by DEHS Dan Green »

Tough loss at home, Maple Grove 3-1. Anyone know what is happening? Should this be concerning?

"Concerning" would be a bit strong, but it does spark a doubt or two. They don't seem to be panicking or doing stupid things--if that were the case, then I would be a lot more cynical.

Their problem right now seems to be their starts to games. In this game and the AV loss, they were pretty flat in the first two periods before finally putting it together in the third. They had an ugly start to the Edina game, too. They seem to be great closers, with a lot of impressive 3rd periods, but they have to carry that over through the first two periods.

I do think they should at least consider breaking up the top line.

I had the over/under on this topic showing up after the Maple Grove loss at three hours. Someone was early.

I'm reminded of that phrase from Lost In Space; "Danger, Will Robinson".

Someone, quick! Sound the Major Alarm!!!!!!!

28 shots and 1 goal. They ran into a tough goalie, a rarity this year. MG has a hell of a goalie which can't be said for a lot of teams in the top 15.

Agreed! Not to mention Maple Grove is a solid team, and this is high school hockey, youre not gonna win 'em all!

Can't we just say Maple Grove is pretty darn good?

That's the way the year has gone, any team in the top 10 -12 is capable of beating any other team in the top 10-12 any night on their own merit.

Agreed, this is the story of Class AA this year.

All of our brackets should be interesting for sections and state! :D

Maple Grove ... Apple Valley ... Edina ...
Having a tough time against any of these teams is understandable. All high skill, high pressure, high speed teams.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing DEHS play yet this year, but I don't think I'd worry too much about it...

We [FL] have played East, CEC,Rapids , & Andover. I think it is East's section . If they stumble I think Rapids will be waiting.

Every good team has a down night every now and then. Its going to be either East or Rapids coming from 7AA. East has a good squad

I have my money on East. They may have been down lately, but they played quality teams. They will most likely come out of 7AA just because they have the better team (IMO) and have played a stronger schedule.

I just hope East can make it out of their section. It just wouldn't be any fun to not go and have fun at state this year.

:!: Gutty call, but I like it. It sure wouldn't surprise me. Though of course, with all we've seen this year, I don't think anything will surprise me.

I personally would love to see that, if MG makes it to state (which is likely), The Crimson will be my team!

Already throwing in the towel for your Bears, wbl?

And you're right, karl. That MG prediction is pretty gutty; however I just do not see it happening. (IMO) Although I did think the same in '03 (Anoka) and '06 (Cretin)... You never completely know.

Another bump in the road, but in my opinion they are still the team to beat in 7AA. It's how you finish that everyone remembers, they get to state and know one will remember or care about this stretch of hockey they have played recently.

And East loses again today, 3-2 at Blaine, though once again this is no reason for panic. Blaine is tough.
