Suburban East Tie Fest

Post by WHAFightingSaints »

SEC teams have combined for an amazing 16 ties in conference play and 22 overall. Next closest in ties is the South Suburban with 8 in conference ties and 15 overall.

Roseville leads the State with 5 ties
Forest Lake and Mounds View are tied with Minneapolis for 2nd with 4 ties.

The SEC teams and their opponents could be in for alot of OT's and double OT's come sectional time!

Let's hope for some more close ones in playoffs. This year has been such a wild ride, who knows what will happen in sections....

What do you expect when you have a conference full of average teams? Last year there were weekly polls/discussions about the SEC teams, and yet, nobody played at State. Even worse, their top teams got blown out in sections. Here we are with yet again weekly write ups about this conference and how competitive the teams are with each other, but when it matters the most, will they compete or just fade away like last year?

Can't disagree but it makes for some fun hockey. The Classic Suburban has two above average teams in Hill and STA, but after that it's pretty ugly. SEC has better competition game in and game out which makes it more exciting than the 17-2 blowouts the Classic Suburban dishes up. Don't get me wrong I believe Hill and STA will be in St. Paul in March, but don't hate on the SEC and its fans.

Agreed, yes CSC has HM and STA and both would clean up the SEC more times than not. However, watching SEC teams (which I do) play each other is sometimes more enjoyable. Almost all of the teams are the same talent wise; this provides a greater chance of better evenly matched games and not as many blow outs.

PPG- We have no Hill , or St. Thomas but, what pride we have not KNOWING we are going to destroy every team in our conference. We of course do it with the kids that we have watched grow up here in our towns.[ except Cretin] If you notice No one writes any thing positive about the Classic Sub.

Wasn't trying to compare the SEC with any other conferences, just stating a fact that the SEC teams have played a tremendous amount of ties not only in conference play but non conference as well. As far as the SEC vs. Classic Suburban they both have their positives and negatives.

While playing night in and night out vs equal teams will this better prepare our teams for sections? I understand FL. has east and rapids. WB and still have Hill. ect, ect. Anything can happen at the end of the year. I wonder if the close games will help out.

It will only help if the above mentioned teams can keep it close enough to the end against the Hill's and Duluth East's.

I have no stats to back this up, but, It seems like "most" years at least one team from the sec goes to state.

Tough task for Stillwater, 3 points back with 4 to play. WBL has the tougher remaining schedule but also have a game in hand. The Bears finish SEC play against the Ponies Saturday night followed with games against Cretin, Forest Lake, Roseville, and Park. Stillwater gets WBL, East Ridge, Mounds View and Hastings. Stillwater must win Saturday and the Bears would have to falter mightily down the stretch for any chance, I don’t see Stillwater catching the Bears.

It's still a long shot...

Stillwater needs to win Saturday AND hope for another WB conference loss to have a tie atop the Suburban East. (WB may also need to have a tie as well..)

After Stillwater, they face Cretin, FLake, Park, and Roseville.

Its going to take some hard work and luck.
