EP had the numbers to have 3 12u teams of 12-13 skaters. Instead they have 2 12u teams that are not competitve and moved girls up to play 14B.
How could 12U have three teams. Only four girls moved up to 14U. Add them to the current pool of 12U players and it only adds up to 34 skaters. I suppose you could grab some 10u's to get up to the 36-39 you suggest, or are some girls playing boys hockey because of the mess.

Regardless, I don't see how doing this makes EP more competative. None of the girls moved up to 14u would have played 12A (their opinion, not mine). I suppose it is possible 12A could be made stronger by removing three girls from the roster, but I don't see it. Watching them play I see no boat anchors dragging down that team. EP has a talent bubble that moved out of 12U into 14U. I think only two 12A players returned from last year. They are a good team who just happen to be playing against some other good teams.

Isn't the real question "Why are 12 and 13 year olds being allowed to play High School Hockey"? HS hockey should be for girls in High School. Most of the larger schools won't allow players to tryout until they are in 9th grade. So why are smaller schools putting these girls at risk of injury and social awkwardness playing with 17 and 18 year olds.

The girls U14 teams statewide are a joke, which is why you are seeing more girls playing in Bantams! We have played against three Bantam teams this year with girls on the roster.

14U seems to be going the way of junior gold. Primarily a metro thing. Numbers are hurting all over outstate. Its sad.

Hornethockeymom, saying that U14 teams are a joke is kind of a broad statement (no pun intended). Is it the competion? skill level? coaching? numbers? Please explain.

My apologies for my insightful contributions, I was wrong. The top 10 was never cracked nor did the team advance.

:(

Good luck to those still playing!
