Rochester Mayo coach Lorne Grosso passes legendary Willard Ikola with 617 career wins
.Rochester Mayo coach Lorne Grosso earned his 617th coaching win on Saturday, Jan. 15, moving Grosso to the top of the list of career Minnesota victories.

The Spartans' 2-1 triumph over Rochester John Marshall gives Grosso a 617-398-24 career record, all at Mayo.

Albert Lea coach Roy Nystrom, Grosso's linemate at the University of Minnesota, has more career victories (623), but 94 of those came while Nystrom was coaching in North Dakota.

Both Nystrom and Grosso rank among the top nationally for career wins by a boys hockey coach.
