Number of New Mites in Your Association This Year

Post by observer »

Let's do some worthwhile bragging.

The biggest number wins Bantam A State title in 8 years.

Total Mite teams- Wayzata 37
Roseau 3

Might be a toss up who has a better A Bantam team in the future.

Looking at boys mites for 2nd and 3rd graders, it is actually 10 teams. Still an advantage, but not so overwhelming. Not all the teams listed on the website actually exist. Just click on some and see for yourself.

They follow the hated ADM so they may not even get out of their district in 6 years.

Teams from many associations don't do anything with their website.... Advantage is not even a word in describing it.

Roseau has 34 Squirts
Wayzata?

Roseau has 2 PeeWee teams
Wayzata?

Roseau has 2 Bantam teams
Wayzata?

Get a top quality public school system and have plenty of access to good jobs so young families with financial resources move there. Kick out the old people so new young families can move in(Edina), or have plenty of land for new home construction(Wayzata).

Not too far from the truth. Only we don't kick the old people out, they just move to one of the retirement buildings around Southdale and drive 20 mph down France Ave. just to piss me off.

Honestly I don't think Edina has ever spent a dime on recruitment. Having a succseful High School program certainly helps get the kids interested, but it's more than that. Hockey is just what kids do in Edina, it's kind of taken for granted.

Why do you think that Hat Trick, Minn Made, Velocity, ... are all in the western suburbs? If your kid is 1 of 170 they have less than a 1 in 10 shot of being on the squirt A team, and about 1 in 20 of playing Varsity. Desperate parents will do and pay almost anything. Feel more sorry for the super association kid then the Roseau ones. In Roseau the kids might actually get some unstructured time on the ice instead of being strapped to a hamster wheel to have their stride scientifically perfected.

There is not always a correlation between how hard an association works to recruit and how many mites they have. A giant association might do little more than post a sign up date on the web site while the little ones may be at every school open house, flier soccer parking lots, march in town parades, run free clinics, give free equipment, waive mite fees,... and still barley have enough to survive.
