You do know that the 'talk' or 'proposal' for any kind of private school tournament or league exists only on this board. Every time this comes up several posters get all excited. Private schools merged into the MSHSL and local conferences 37 years ago. There really is no movement on this. I think even most coaches know that the competition with private schools is a good thing and way better than the alternative. Private schools have not dominated any sport. Maybe you could argue that they have dominated Class A Hockey. The alternative would be private schools not bound by MSHSL rules. Meaning private schools could then have longer seasons, more games, athletics scholarships, recruiting, etc., etc., and really siphon off all the best talent.

I’m not keen on the idea of a Catholic school league for many of the reasons already mentioned, but I like PuckU126 ‘s (Jan. 12, 9:56 am) idea of a mid-January tournament over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend. It wouldn’t mess up the current great (winter) holiday tournaments or come too late in the season to mess up teams’ conference game schedules and preparation for the playoffs. Perhaps Delbarton School (see “Delbarton Academy, NJ at STA 1-15-11 7:30” blog) and catholic prep teams from other states would be interested in joining the mix to fill out the tournament bracket(s).

This is what I was thinking. I've been thinking something like the Edina Tournament would work; St Thomas, Breck, SSM, Delbarton could play a round robin.

Or could we have these 4 and others make an 8 team bracket or 16 team bracket of teams from around the state/country. Many of these teams play already and could match up in the tournament not taking away any regular season games. Attract a huge crowd, many match ups that don't happen now.

Could easily happen is any of these private schools tried to start it. Only time will tell.
