Granted I have not seen all the teams play but the Big Nine sure looks terrible this year.

West - good, but not great
AL - ditto
Century - ditto
JM - avg to below avg
Fairbo - ditto
Mayo - ditto
Owatonna - bad
Winona - bad
Austin - terrible
East - terrible
MAYO SPARTANS!

Century vs Mayo

Post by Big Nine Observer »

Century beat Mayo 4-2. Tied going into third period. Kautz played well for Century.

HockNut - Spot on, but using the word "Good" for any of the Big 9 teams this year is a stretch!!

West beat W. Fargo in a shootout, 5-4 in Fergus Falls tournament on Wednesday (HockeyHub has the score backwards for some reason).

Yesterday, West won over St Francis 6-1.

Any other info on the Mayo v Century game? If Mayo was tied with Century after 2 periods, it seems like Mayo has stepped it up a bit after earlier loss to JM.

Mayo lost 4 to 2 to Century. They had some bad bounces otherwise it would've been a different story. They lost to JM in the 7th place game in OT 2-1. They easily could've ended up on the Winners side of the bracket instead of being 0-3. They had a couple of good chances in the OT game against Prior Lake. They have stepped it up over last season.

Clutterbuck like stated in other post where would Mayo be without the Austin Recruits and Exchange students. Better than last year not saying much.

JM outshoots mayo 40-12 and has beat Mayo twice. They are good but JM is avg to below avg. I would put Mayo down with the BAD Owatonna, Winnona, Austin and East.

1AA

Lakeville South and Lakeville North play in Jan and Feb. The winner of those games will be the #1 seed in 1AA. Century will be the #3 seed. The 4th seed is wide open. John Marshall, Owatonna, Farmington, Mayo you might as well put in a hat.

I think Century will get the #3 seed if they win the Big 9. Mayo beat Owatonna, Owatonna beat Farmington, John Marshall beat Mayo. The 4-9 seeds are a mystery?

If Mayo can get a consistent offense going they'll be good. That's the only problem I see with this team. Just aren't consistent enough on the Offensive side. If they get that going with Van Galder and the Defense they might be a team to watch out for in the end.

clutterbuck22 you are dead on about Mayo. They played a decent tourney this weekend going overtime twice and losing to Century in which they were ahead most of the game. Funny thing was is what you mentioned, the first line which has been producing nearly everything was kind of dormant this tourney. The upside was the fact that they got some scoring from the second and third lines which they haven't had. If mayo's first line can continue to score and they get some compliments from the other lines from time to time they can be a dangerous team to play. The defense from game to game is there and Van Galder has been very good thus far. Mayo is going to go thru a heavy stretch this next week and a half with playing hibbing, virginia, and south st. paul.

We are not the same person. If we were wouldn't I respond to myself sooner? How do you check ip addresses because I can't find it on the profile.

I think Mayo losing 3-1 to Lakeville North is actually a pretty good showing for the Spartans. Century lost to North by more (6-1), didn't they?

Lourdes v Albert Lea hopefully will be a great game. These should be two of the top four section seeds.

Tonight's games (picks in bold):

Lourdes v Albert Lea
West v St Peter/LSH
Austin v Sleepy Eye
Owatonna v Faribault
Mayo v East
Winona v Century

He can't check. He's not an admin and there is no way an admin would give him that information.

Shots were 69 to 8 favoring Mayo. Whitney and Martin had 2 goals each and Alcott had a hat trick.

I hate to post anything after you anymore clutterbuck22 since apparently we are the same person. Who is this Rookie19 anyway!!!! he posts things at a whim without even having knowledge of anything. Earlier he posted that JM outshot Mayo in the tourney game 48-12. Obviousley that is very wrong it was 48-28. Rookie please know what you are talking about before posting. You are looking like a Rookie blogger. On another note the second line for mayo looked very good last night but I believe it was due to the game slowing down drastically for them. The first line was out of sink in the first and I believe it was due to the same reason. Nice to see the second and third lines getting most of the action. They really need the boost for the upcoming games. I did see that Hibbing lost to Lakeville North 6-2 last week. That alone should boost Mayo's confidence. Will need the confidence to hang in there. Virginia will be tough as well on Saturday.

Century is a solid team this year, they just don't always work hard and to their potential. As shown in their wake up call against Winona, they must work hard day in and day out to be successful and play to their potential. Winona is definitely improving as well, they're gritty and they work hard. Fran McDevitt is a very underrated coach, and he's starting to get his team to compete.

It's down to a three horse race now, between West, Albert Lea and Century. The winner of the Albert Lea/West game thursday takes control of the driver's seat in the conference race. Mayo has started to turn it on lately, battling some tough competition very closely.

GopherPuck15: At this point I wouldn't say it's just a three horse race. If Mayo can continue to bring the game to the rink they have the past week I don't see them losing a whole lot down the stretch. They have only played 3 conference games and are 2-1. After tomorrow's game with South St. Paul they start there conference schedule for the remainder of the year. So far they have hung neck and neck with two of the top teams in 1A last week and get #3 tomorrow night. It should be an interesting second half to say the least. West right now in my opinion is playing well but up until last night they had only played 3 teams with winning records. Mayo's scheduling is going to help them immensly as they found out what they are capable of now going into the conference schedule. Albert Lea was beaten 4-1 by Virginia and 9-2 by Hibbing. Century is so up and down and was beaten by Albert Lea last night.

does Century's loss to AL lose them any points on the Conference standings? i'm not familiar with the scoring system for the conference, but what i remember is that it's the only the first game that counts? If that holds true, Mankato West and Century are the only teams that can win out and win the Conference, Century and West play on the 18th
