Green and White Fan wrote:Kind of ironic that Roseau played in 3rd place game at the Edina tournament. You know what, they played the entire game, took a tough loss and headed home. The big difference is that Edina schedules their tournament so that the Championship and 3rd place games are played at night. Roseau played at 6:45 PM, then boared the bus and headed back to Roseau. The last time I checked, it is the same distance from Edina to Roseau as it is from Roseau to Edina. If Edina would have finished the game, they would have been half way back to the cities, by the time the 3rd place game had even been scheduled to start in their tournament. I just don't think you are teaching kids very good values by telling them, if you aren't playing for championships, then it isn't worth playing!
I hope Roseau never invites Edina back again. What a disgusting performance.
They were probably late for a MN Made meeting or some lame bs like that.
I agree... Once somebody tried to convince me that people from Edina didn't have to go to the bathroom. I mean really can you believe that, I mean come on, I mean uh... uh... I mean uhhh, it's not true, right ??? Confused
This is actually true. And each child born in Edina is the product of Immaculate Conception. Little known facts.

I have no idea what happened or why the coaches pulled their team. Clearly, nobody else on this board knows either.
Maybe we'll find out, maybe we won't.
In the meantime, there are hundreds of Edina parents who drive their kids to practice every night, go to their games, freeze in warming houses and never miss a tournament.
Ever. (Even in a driving snowstorm, when other teams have pulled out, when the team isn't close to being an A team and has no shot of making it to even the consolation round).
So please, take a deep breath and believe that most of us are just trying to drop our kid off at the rink on time and remember which rink the other one needs to get picked up from.
Probably just like the rest of you.
You're right. Way too much general Edina bashing. I'm sure the Edina players and parents were as surprised and upset about this as most of you were. They, however, did not make the decision to quit a game their team was winning. The coaching staff made the decision and should have explained it to the players, parents and Roseau tournament officials by now. It would be great to hear from one of them to end this worthless bashing. I did see that Edina team play a great game against a very good Burnsville team a while ago. It was a hard fought class act by both teams with Edina winning. I can't believe this same Edina team would quit without a very good reason. It had to be safety related or they would not have done it.

I agree on not bashing every edina player parent or coach. This is about the bantam a group. I was at the game and watched a good portion of it. If there were safty concerns then every player and parent from that team should not be playing hockey. I seen nothing that was out of hand for a bantam game. Were there penalties yes. Was the ref in control Yes. So as far as walking off I'd really like to hear the coaches reasoning. This was a great game and the edina coaches took that away from the kids.

Was that the right call...maybe not but who knows.
Basically what is done is done.

funny I just talked to the official that did the game and he said he never entered the locker room to talk to coaches or players. So where are you getting your false information?
You are right about one thing what is done is done.
I agree to not paint all Edina players, coaches and parents with the same brush. But what Roseau can do, because this was an insult to their entire tournament, is to NOT invite them back. Then let the Edina parents wonder next year when they are the only team not invited.
I think Roseau should invite them back, there aint no way they would go back they realy got one hell of a hockey lesson up there. you can take them to regions as Clutterbuck would say

Edina and several other metro teams made a long trek to Roseau for a great tournament. Among other things, this gives the city kids a glimpse into a different life. It also gets Roseau some great games without traveling several hours for them.
Maybe they don't invite Edina back. But...they probably want the best teams and are able to sell that to the other top teams. Hey, we draw a great field.
My guess is the Edina teams are welcomed back by Roseau. I understand a little speculation, but why all the uproar? Edina gained nothing from this, didn't stand up their hosts, and will live with the backlash and consequences from their decision.

I totally agree clown! Anyone who has been up to Roseau for a weekend of hockey understands what great people those folks living up there are. Their hospitality is without match anywhere. From the home cooked meals for the kids at the Legion and VFW, to the rides home from the Legion for those of us who have one too many, we all leave there on Sundays with nothing but great memories and appreciation for all they do to make the city slickers feel welcome. At the end of the day for all the fine folks of Roseau, it is all about the hockey, and having the best teams possible come up there to play, and as O-Clown said, I am quite sure that Edina will be welcomed back with open arms.
I would agree with O-town. Folks in Edina are waking up to the realization of just how much if a pinhead 'five head' actually is. The meltdown in the commons area a few years back when a certain kin did not make the cherished A squad was but an early warning to the fine folks of Edina. Now your Association President has some apologizing to do to the fine folks who run the Roseau tournament which will be taken care of you can be sure of that. The Edina bantams will be back without a certain Bantam A 'coach' count on it.

PoniesDad, you do miss it. Why else would you be reading a youth hockey forum when your kids are "no longer part of it".
Rule 632 of the USA hockey rulebook says that if a team refuses to start play, they first receive a warning, then minor for delay of game, and finally a Match penalty is assessed to the head coach.
The head coach is then suspended until a hearing is held.
I don't know if the Roseau referee chose to call it that way, but that is the rule.

Roseau runs a great tournament and everyone in town is outstanding. From the referees, tournament folks, hotels, resturaunts to concession stand. The meals at the Legion & VFW standings posted all over the place, etc (I know I missed a bunch).
Will Roseau let them back in(?), who knows. But if they even consider it they are better people then the ones who walked out on them.

It's kind of like a trainwreck. Now I know I can see it, I just have to look

From the Roseau tournament directors.
P.S. there is more than just one official.
Thanks and have a nice day.
your to funny when I said I talked to the official did thegame I meant it so get your info right. and the is only one ref in the 1 2 system so I'd have to say your wrong because that is the system that was being used in this game.
im from warroad and was watching this 3rd place match up between blaine and edina. edina came out and got a couple goals early but blaine was really picking it up and coming back in the second. blaine was by far the more physical team in no way cheap what so ever. they were playing very aggressive and i saw a few huge hits from blaine aswell. in no way is this a worthless game when you have a number 1 and 4 ranked team in the state playing in a very prestigous tournament with a 4-3 score when edina walked off the ice with 10 mins left in the second. i did see some bad sportsmenship from an edina player(dont remember the number) and it was nothing like ive seen before. edina should owe an apology to the whole community of Roseau and to the players and coaches aswell. great tourny though overall some very good youth hockey being showcased.

What kind of speech are you using? I need to teach my kids how to talk like that.
