Edina (6-2-2) @ Holy Angels (4-2) 1-7-11 7:30pm
Should be a great game; the winner will most likely be the #1 seed in section 2AA. Based on games with their two common opponents, Elk River and Burnsville, it seems the Hornets definitely has the upper hand on paper, although I wouldn't count the Stars out with about anyone in Richfield.
First post in a LONG time.
AHA is coming off of a slow start right now and Edina has pretty much proven they are among the elite hockey teams in the state. I am sticking with Edina here; however, AHA will be back as an elite if they prove themselves against the Hornets.

Edina vs. AHA
We've debated this subject before regarding AHA and the seedings for 2AA.
Edina is clearly the #1 seed (right now). Even if AHA wins vs Edina, Edina's strength of schedule (SOS) would outweigh a loss to AHA, provided Edina gets 18 wins or more.
AHA would have to pretty much run the table to be the top seed in 2AA. If they were to finish with 21+ wins, that might do it.
The argument will always be AHA's conference does not help their cause in the seeding meetings; especially when 4 of the 8 teams that make up the section are SSC members:
Blm Kennedy
Blm Jefferson
Burnsville
Prior Lake
AHA is is a great postion to be the #2 seed in 2AA, but as noted in an earlier post, their goaltending needs to be more consistent. Giving up 5 to CDH is not a good sign; especially since CDH is down this year as compared to other years.

Re: Edina vs. AHA
First thing that I think should happen (but probably never will) is have consistent criteria for seeding for the coaches to use.blueblood wrote:We've debated this subject before regarding AHA and the seedings for 2AA.

That being said, imo, your section games heavily outweigh your non-section games. I agree that Edina is the favorite (and that they'll probably win this game) but to say that Holy Angels could beat both Burnsville and Edina and not be the top seed is crazy to me.
But then again they tied the #1 seed last year and were the #4 seed; figure that one out

Should bea good game. Edina has not been scoring tons of goals lately and Holy Angels' forwards looked good against Cretin last night. I was impressed with the Stars everywhere except in goal against CDH in the silver bracket final. Those Vegas gold breezers, however, might be the ugliest thing I've ever seen (except for Cooperalls back in the 80s)
I agree with Blueblood...
I am going to call a close game. Last year AHA ties Edina in the regular season. On our ice I am saying we can take them. Anyway you look at it the game should be fun. I am, of course working and will also be cheering for my team.
Come on out early to get a parking spot and a ticket. There is less parking at the arena because of a parking lot rebuild this year. Use the legion lot and the Veterans park lot at 64th and Portland.

AHA vs. Edina
AHA found their stride in third period against Bville. They would not be denied on offense, defense, & goaltending. They played Roseau tough but couldn't muster the offense in a close well played game. Oddly enough one of AHA strengths in Roseau ( tough place to play) was goalie, he made several big saves in the first 5 minutes or it could of been 3-0 at the end of one. AHA line changes since then have proven to be genius, offense with every shift and they still haven't played a home game yet. D & goalie will need to play well which they have proven they can & I see AHA winning 5-3 with an empty netter.

That game ended 8 to 5 and should have been 3 to 2. The rest of the game was decent but the goaltending was poor!!

AHA vs Edina
Who saw AHA Farmington game, with 59 shots how was it 0-0 at end of one? 59 shots is impressive, I don't care if your playing a girls U12 team, 59 is a big number. Did Farmington take some majors for an extended AHA power play ?

I was there and I am biased.
Farmingtons goalie played very good. I think it was AHA just wearing down thier opponent. A lot of shots in the bread-basket, but also a lot just missing the mark.
Farmington did also have many chances to change the outcome but could not capitalize on their opportuntiees.
As far as illness and injuries I am not sure.

Injuries or illness, doesn't matter this will be a great game. Two teams that respect each other and dislike each other. Top seed for Section 2AA may be on the line and in control of the winner. Edina playing well some big wins, good team. AHA rough start, big holiday tournament win, may have turned the corner.
As I see it, can AHA D and Goaltender step up and play a great game and be a factor with a good offense.
Final Score
EDINA 1
AHA 3
