Sadly, the Minnesota hockey community lost another great coach. Yesterday morning, Steve Friese (52) passed away in his home. Some of you may remember or your kids may have attended Endurance Plus power skating school, first run out of New Hope and then Champlin in the 1990s.
Steve dedicated many years of his life to teaching the game of hockey to young players. He coached in Anoka and raised 3 boys that excelled on the ice for the Tornadoes in the late 90s and early 2000s.
As pure of a skater that has ever laced them up, Steve's devotion to helping youth hockey players learn the game was second to none. He reminded me this last summer that no matter what happens, that I should never forget its all about the kids, nothing else.
If you asked him what his coaching record was, he wouldn't know, but he could list the players by name that had come through his camps and had success on the ice. He loved the game of hockey and he loved the players he coached.
In his passing, we should all remember one thing, its all about the players.
RIP Steve Freise, Hockey Coach, Father, Husband and Friend
Loss to the Hockey Community
