Grand Rapids wins.

Because...
They are confident after the Cloquet game.
Game is at FL so that tips the scale a bit. But it is not a tough bus ride.
GR's young players are used to winning.

GR will win because they will want revenge for last year's 6-0 quarterfinal loss. Whoever wins this game will set themselves up nicely for seeding position very early in the year provided they stay consistent. The winner will get to play Duluth East later in the year with a chance to steal the #1 seed away from them.

Anyone know how many players from each squad played in the Fall Elite league this year?

Well that was an interesting game. I thought it was going to be a blowout for a while but the F.L. goalie kept his team in it. Then the third happened, so did Rapids run out of gas, just quit playing or did F.L. find their game? On a side note, doesn't anyone teach these kids to dump the puck and chase when they get in trouble? Anyway, big win early for the T-hawks looking forward to the home opener against Roseau.

Great game Rapids looks good. We came out got early goal. Then seemed to leave the rink for awhile. Game was tied w/three mins left then we took a penalty Rapids scored. End of story. Kohls had two for us. C.J. had two assists. Kid from Rapids [Undersomething had two] Fun night at the rink. High school hockey is a great form of entertainment.

This Grand Rapids team has the potential to be very good and I know it's still early in the season, but 7AA games are huge, and GR looks like a #1 or #2 seed provided they don't have any off nights against a bad team. Goaltending was outstanding, and the defensemen and forwards move very cohesively in each zone. Rapids has a very balanced scoring attack, and their youngest players very much look the part. As a fan, I am very excited about this year for GR and it was a gutsy road win against a solid Forest Lake team.

For Forest Lake, it was their first game, so they were a bit rusty. They had a terrible time breaking out of their zone, but I expect they'll fix that. They have the ingredients for a team that will give fits in the section tourney with a pure scorer like Kohls and a top notch goalie.

Rapids and East look like favorites in 7AA. [It's a long year]

It's early, but Flake may learn that it's tough to replace Senior leadership.

I can understand why Forest Lake may have trouble moving the puck out of their defensive end. Their top defensemen from last year (I can't remember his name) either carried the puck out or made great tape to tape passes to the breaking forwards. It's not just who is returning, but what key losses the team suffered. Forest Lake is a 7AA contender, but until they prove otherwise, they are at the second tier of AA schools.
