USA Hockey - Financial Juggernaut

Post by mnhockeywatch »

I received an advertisement from USA Hockey regarding IntelliGym... went to the vendors website it was $399 for a family membership! That caused me to think about all the other crap USA Hockey is lending its name to or outright endorsing.

Has anyone looked at the financial statements for USA Hockey? We are all supporting directly + indirectly USA Hockey...what are we getting for our money? Yes, I hear about the 'insurance' that doesn't nearly cost the fees they've extracted from our households.

This board is full of MN Hockey vs MN Made discussions...How about a more obvious discussion that being the cost/benefit of USA Hockey. How many parents that view this post will ever have your players skate on a USA Hockey Olympic, Select Team or Training Program? Your odds are better with Power Ball.

Highlights from the 2008-09 Financial Statements:

Assets & Liabilities = $11.8M

Revenue = $30M
Expense = $24.5M
A few highlights in the expense category:
- National & International Programs $6.6M
- Player, Official & Coaching development $4.3M
Supporting Service = $4.5M

Does anybody find that surprising?

The term that comes to mind is Trojan Horse.

I certainly wouldn't call it a financial juggernaut. One lawsuit that goes the wrong way and all reserves are wiped out in a hurry.

Remember when they tried to move the season registration period from what it is now (Sept. 1 through Aug. 31) to something aligned with how programs operate (May 1 through April 30)? They backtracked because one attorney threatened to bring a frivolous lawsuite alleging a "loss of benefits" because one "season" would run just 8 months.

Even though the case was absurd, USA Hockey doesn't have resources to fight.

I think $30 Million of income sounds low for an organization of that size. Would have thought it is a lot higher.
Be kind. Rewind.

Don't think you weaken the club :lol: When you know what you are talking about you don't need to think.
