Youth Hockey Region Berths

Post by SoftMitts »

Does anyone know how many teams from each district make it to regions this year for all youth levels?

Here's the format for Bantams and Pee Wees this year according to MN Hockey 2010-2011 Handbook

North Region (PA Moorehead, PB Sauk Centre, BA Hibbing, BB Greenway)
A = D12
B = D16
C = D15

South Region (PA & PB Rochester, BA Luverne, BB Worthington)
A = D8
B = D9
C = D4

East Region (PA & PB Anoka, BA Blaine-Fogerty, BB TBD)
A = D2
B = D10
C = D11

West Region (PA & PB St. Cloud, BA & BB Wayzata-Plymouth)
A = D5
B = D6
C = D3

A and B Districts send 3 teams to the Regional
C Districts send 2 teams to the Regional

Format looks like Double Elimination with 2 teams advancing to State

1st round in each region
A1 vs. C2
B1 vs. A3
C1 vs. B3
B2 vs. A2

If my memory serves me, the format has been two pools of 4 sorted red and blue. After pool play Friday and Saturday, the Sunday games are Red 1 vs. Blue 2 and Blue 1 vs. Red 2 with winners advancing to State as 1 or 2.

I thought it was pool play too but according to the MN Hockey handbook they're changing up and doing a double elimination with the champion and consolation champ moving onto state.

I think you are correct. Page 44 has the typical double elim bracket listed. This format should ease the confusion that comes from pool play when one team is 3-0 and three teams are 1-2 not knowing if/when they play the next day. I can hear all of the tournament directors "sigh" of relief! :wink:
