On July 18, 2010, the Balistreri family was traveling eastbound on Highway 13 when a car traveling west bound crossed the grass median, hitting the family’s SUV. Eleven year-old Joey Balistreri passed away at the scene. While Joey’s mother, Pam, and sister, Megan, were transported by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center, where they were treated and released. Joey’s father, Geoff, was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center by helicopter. He endured seven surgeries before being released on August 6, 2010.
Geoff, Joey and his older brother, Rob, were active members of the Burnsville Hockey Club. Joey would have been a first year Pee Wee for the 2010-2011 season. In an effort to help the Balistreri’s with the unexpected financial burden they are facing, the Burnsville Hockey Club is hosting an NHL Alumni Game on November 12, 2010 at the Burnsville Ice Center in Burnsville, Minnesota. Following the game there will be a dinner and silent auction at Burnsville Carbone’s Pizza.

This should be a great game Please come out to the newly renovated Burnsville Ice rink to support this great cause... The Walser Group has generously become a corporate sponsor for the event and Burnsvlle Carbone's has also been a great partner. If you have any auction items please contact Tracy at the link above. Folks,
This presents another opportunity for this Board to make a positive difference in this family's recovery. Most of us have just watched--or are in the process of watching--our kids participate in traveling hockey tryouts. Some of our kids will make the teams they want to make, but others will be disappointed. While watching our kids suffer from disappointment is never fun for parents, the experience is nothing compared to this family's loss and recovery process.
So what can we do to help support the silent auction? Be bold in your thinking. Those of you who have cabins or ski condos, put together a weekend or a week at your place. Those of you who have bottles of nice wine, donate a couple of bottles. Those of you who have Wild or Gopher tickets, donate a few of your tickets. Those of you who run clinics, donate a session for one or more kids. Those of you who own rinks, donate ice time. Those of you who have time but not treasure to offer, donate your labor. If you're a car mechanic, electrician, carpenter, heating and cooling person, landscape person, accountant, painter, architect, etc., donate several hours of your time. Finally, association presidents, board members, coaches and team managers, this presents a community service opportunity for teams and associations. Prepare and donate theme baskets or offer your team's services for fall clean-up. A group of 17 active, fit boys can rake and remove leaves from even the largest lawn in no time flat.
Let's show this family that we support them as they continue to heal from this tragic accident. If you go to the Burnsville hockey web site and click on the Caring Bridge link for this family, you will see for yourself that this family still needs our support.

Well Put!!! If you have nothing to give Take the time to at least come out to the game to show your support. I know tha the Bals gain strength with all the people surrounding them. As the time gets closer To the game, I would like to keep this front of mind for people. The Generosity shown so far from the hockey community has been fantastic. I have had people that didn't know the family offer donations that truely will make a difference in this cause. The benefit is gaining momentum and I would again ask that if you cannot make a donation of a silent auction gift, Please show up at the game on the 12th and see what group support can do for a family. Quick update on the game. We are proud to announce that along with Walser and Burnsville Carbone's We have found a sponsor for the Raffle in between periods of the game. Hattrick Hockey Richfield store has been kind enough to donate a top end pair of skates and a top end composite stick that will be raffled off to some lucky attendees at the event. Thanks to the Generosity of the hockey community this event is shaping up to be a huge success. Come out to celebrate the Life of a Great Kid and support the family.

Game ON .. tonight the NHL Brings it best of the best MN former NHL Stars to Burnsville Ice Center to take on the Best of the Best Burnsville hockey coaches. This promises to be a fun night of hockey to support a local family. Help turn tragedy into a night to remember by showing your support. Grand prize in the $5 raffle tonight is a pair of 11K rebok pump skates valued at over $700 donated by Hattrick hockey Richfield. These skates will be given away during the game . Silent auction items include X-Box Live (newest version) and other great deals to be auctioned off after at Carbone's Burnsville location.
