Tonight I heard that the St. Louis Park board voted to withdraw from the Storm Coop.
I was asked which team I wanted to coach. I hope there is time for the parents of the kids to revolt against the individuals who were factors in this last minute decision. It is sad and I put this out here because the kids deserve to know that politics seem to have split up the Storm.
Hope reason still has time to trump passion.

Thanks for all that you did for my now 2nd year Bantam, he may have had the greatest hockey run of his life, under your tutelage!!! Taking 4th in the PeeWee A State Tournament and missing the championship game by a cross-bar. I can not speak to the reasons for the break, but there are some strong personalities on both sides. All I can say, is that the co-op of MPLS-SLP was a great experience for my son the entire 5 years he was part of it, and having you coach him for 2 or the 5 years was a big part of that experience. Thanks again, and good luck, trying to get them back to the table.

Storm Update
UPDATE: After SLP voted to dissolve its Coop with Mpls yesterday, Mpls proposed to split at the B level, since a debate over the number and nature of their B1 teams was the problem, and keep the A team Coop at the PeeWee level, but SLP will not agree even though they return 3 players with PeeWee B1 or A experience, 6 B2's and no squirt A players. It remains to be seen how they will field a team that can compete in District 3.
Only 4 days ago SLP was happy to have a cooped A team. I've asked what has changed that makes it so necessary to split up on the eve of tryouts... Did not receive an answer and was not consulted during this process that affects players of mine from last year.
I'm thankful to Mpls for offering to give in to SLP's desire for the B1 teams. I wish SLP would not have responded with "we already voted" and cannot undo it. Of course that was ridiculous. Nothing is stopping them from allowing the A players to coop one more year with Mpls.
Things can still change and I beg SLP to reconsider for their A players sake.

I was hoping SW Prez and someone from SLP would come on line and fill us in on what went on. Storm Coach I can feel your frustration. This has been going on ever since the co-op started. The first big disagreement both parties couldn't get past was at the squirt level where they broke the co-op and fielded their own teams last year. SLP didn't have an A team, and MPLS' was average at best. This year the B1 levels were the problem.
Storm Coach you seem to be blaming SLP, and I'm sure they're partly to blame. But, feedback I'm getting is that MPLS made a demand on them, gave them 24hrs. to respond, with no room for discussion. This has happen before, and they had enough of it. The co-op supporters on the SLP board could no longer support the co-op and the vote was unanimous.
Hopefully nobody from either board is coming on this forum because they are busy trying to iron this out, if it still possible. Blame whomever you want, but get it worked out. Put the egos aside and do what's best for the kids.

Sorry hockeyover40...but I can't comment in detail on this at this time. I have nothing but fond memories of my son's MPLS-Park Storm experience and his teammates from SLP and Minneapolis and thank the SLPHA and families for making the years special.
A formal statement will go out to membership from SLP/SWHA/WAHA in the morning outlining where we go from here for 2010-11.

I can understand how my posts have led you to think I blame SLP for the "divorce", but I want to be clear that I do not. What I do blame SLP for taking a dispute that was about the B level, and using that as a reason to walk away from the Storm at the A level. It did not have to be this way, and in fact Mpls agreed to the split at the B level but to keep the Coop for the upcoming season (less than 20 days aways)... SLP said no and thus I do have to blame SLP for not allowing the kids at the A level play together this year.

With the Formal desire to actively have kids play hockey where they attend school (BSM kids play at SLP now), THere are 10-15 kids at Bantam A and B1 level from BSM that don't reside in SLP but go to school there.
I would assume SLP saw a huge influx of BSM players and doesn't need players from Mpls as well. BSM has several players now at Peewee A and B1 level I understand.
BSM is a 7-12 school so in theory they could do what Blake has done for years and have their own Bantam team or teams. Perhaps in another year or two they will do that to build stronger team bonds at the Bantam level.
Just my two cents.
