Velocity Hockey 2000 Girls AAA Team Tryouts

Post by Yakunin »

Just saw on the front page of the Velocity Website that they are starting a 2000 girls AAA Team.

www.velocityhockeycenter.com for tryout and program details. Their 99 team last year was very good!

There 99 team was very good because they trained at Minnesota made together for two years prior to moving over to Velocity. The 99's are a great team as they should be after being together for three years. Velocity will have a tough time fielding a team like that for next year in the 2000 birth year.

Looks like this is now happening again to the MM 2000 level team moving on to Velocity. Must be something up that these girls and boys are making the move over there.

MM hasn't had a lot of luck with the girls. Crying boys with some of the enjoyment crushed is one thing but parents really hate to see their daughters crying their eyes out. Remember, it's a game. Game to me means a big smile. Not a good culture for the young ladies.

I'm not so sure the 2000 team is moving over to Velocity-might need a fact check. They have a tryout on Sunday and I heard there are only a couple of spots open. I think this means all the girls who won't make the 2000 Machine are moving to Velocity.

Observer, are you saying that girls can't handle what the boys can? If so, you need to give them a little more credit. I know a lot of girls who are just as fierce and competitive as any boy.

Its sounds like you already have given it "a whirl" and are speaking from experience??? Didn't work out so well, huh?

Word on the street is that Velocity has already got 9-10 commitments from last years 2000 machine team. They also had 40 plus girls at there tryout so I am sure they will have other talented girls to pick from. :D

Yakunin- I think you have bad info...actually, I know you have bad info. Velocity may have the 9-10 commitments, but they are from girls that played on the 2001 Machine. Now stop spreading bad rumors!

This comment makes zero sense. The 99s left MM with the coach, so if there were tears (which I've never heard was the case), this move would not change that. The reasons that I've heard around why the 99s left don't have anything to do with the 99s at all. Then, after the team left, MM still put a pretty good 99 team on the ice.

There will continue to be a bunch of movement on the girls side as long as tournaments continue to hold 10U/12U/14U tourneys. Once the number of girls' teams is large enough to support 99/00/01, there'll be less of the 01 player playing 00 type movement, though there'll always be "the grass is greener" movement. Velocity, Machine, Blades, Ice Cougars are moving toward this with the younger girls; other programs strong with younger boys - Monopoly, Legacy - will follow suit.
