Lindsey Brown has accepted an offer from The Ohio State University to play this fall. I heard it was a sudden change and has developed only in the last two weeks. The Thoroughbreds will have Paige Turner and Lindsey Hibbard for their goalies this year to backstop a very talented team.

From everything that I have heard, Ivy Smith is not returning. There was talk of her playing with Centennial. Things might have changed and that might not be the case though.

Looks like White Bear and Stillwater had a couple defectors.

Girls who join the Thoroughbreds are not "defectors". They are simply pursuing an opportunity outside their high school team. Many of the girls join Thoroughbreds just to experience a new level of competition. Do not scrutinate these girls for making a decision that could give them a better future in collegiate level hockey than some could on their high school team.

Thoughroughbreds are a nice fit for girls who are looking to play more games, get noticed and who are more physical. I love that Crysta Lowell chose to tryout. It will be great for her and feel she will have a excellent chance to play college hockey. Marci will definitely help her. This will be a good fit.

WBL will lose a very strong player though.

Agree that Crysta is a good fit for the Thoroughbreds. While WBL will "lose a strong player," it will be 110 minutes that the Bears will NOT be killing a penalty due to one player's inability to control herself. In my opinion, losing this drama goes in the plus column for the Bears. Good luck to Crysta and the rest of the Thoroughbreds.

I see that 3 of the players that could still play opted to not come back to the Thoroughbreds. Does anyone know how common this is? I know there are a number of circumstances that come in to play at that level such as cost, injuries and such....

Melvin44 named this specific player in his post. I was simply responding to his comments. I have no ax to grind. If you re-read my post, I stated this player was a good fit for the Thoroughbreds, agreed that WBL will be losing a strong player, and wished this player good luck. Nothing I said in my post was inaccurate. This forum is set up to allow people to post their opinions under a moniker -- it happens all the time.

Beginning last year they joined the very tough JWHL so great hockey and lots of travel involved. The JWHL is probably better recruited than MN HS hockey as they do weekend tournaments where a college scout can see alot of players in a single weekend vs HS hockey where they have to travel around and my only be able to catch one or parts of games in a day. Four players from last years team are going to play D1 as freshman ths year.

Cost is largely associated with travel. So say you spent $10,000 that is more than HS Hockey but a deal compared to a $50,000 hockey academy such as Shattuck or others out East or in Canada that play in JWHL.

Boarding: $36,950 and I understand there is $8,000 activity fee for hockey and addtional expenses.

The cost to play for the Throughbreds is unknown... By that I mean they have the fee that you pay upfront. Around 2500-2800 or so. The travel is what can kill ya. They fly for the most part, and things have not been well organized in the past so sometimes your buying your tickets last minute. So you have airfare and then hotel costs, and rental cars. The airline tickets all varied of course but sometimes the tickets were about 800 a piece and most kids had a parent coming with to each game. Then food was at your own cost too. I do know they are making some adjustments to how they are doing things this year so maybe that can cut costs and also create a better team enviroment. You have similar teams like Boston Shamrocks that are upfront and tell you the cost is like 17,000 and they tell you whats included. I wish it was a little more organized so you really knew what you were getting your daughter into.
