If we employed a plumber that could not sweat a fitting or assemble a drain that doesn't leak, we'd fire him and/or not hire him again. Yet for some reason, if a school district hires a coach that doesn't win or develop players, we won't fire the guy unless he hits a player over the head with his stick. If you don't do your job very well, you should find another job to do or find an employer looking for someone that doesn't do his job very well. That goes for you teachers, as well.

Yeah! Especially the ones that forget to teach about homonyms.InigoMontoya wrote:If we employed a plumber that could not sweat a fitting or assemble a drain that doesn't leak, we'd fire him and/or not hire him again. All I can say about this post is WOW! I'm really confused about this subject. I commented on a post earlier today about the job at Sauk Rapids
not having known about this particular post. I spent the last couple hours reading the article and comments provided by the St. Cloud Times and I'm on the fence over the whole ordeal. There were comments about the youth association backing up the group that had issues with the coach. I have a few questions that I would hope these self proclaimed hockey experts would be able to answer for me.
How can someone come on here and say the parents had no involvment in this decision? Let's start by stating the obvious. A youth hockey association is made up of and run by parents. Any open minded person would agree. So if the youth association backed these individuals common sense says there was parent involvment!
I also noted several comments stating the coach basiclly was unable to DEVELOP players. Yes I capitalized Develop, because this word will be mentioned several times during this post. That being said, this is where I'm on the fence on this topic.I have seen SR youth hockey play over the last 3-4 years during league games and also tournaments And they were nothing short of spectacular. I recently found out that at the peewee and bantam levels they never fielded an A team. Being somewhat passionate about the sport, I tried to keep up with teams I have watched play. At the beginning of the season these teams were throwing out absoulute beatings on their opponets only to see them flatline at the end of the season and unfourtantly lose to these same teams they were beating. I'm not the smartest person in the hockey world, but that certainly is not DEVELOPING!
I was always interested in why they didn't field any A teams. My question was answered at a tournament this past season. I asked a

at the arena why no A teams? The answer I received was"Thats how the parents voted". With that being said, It appears it's all about winning and not DEVELOPING. Every sports association will have a few vocal "know it all" parents. there is no escaping this fact. These parents will tell the rest of the uniformed parents how to vote because it's best for their kids. When in reality the don't care about their kids. It's sad but true.
So for you people saying the coach was unable to DEVELEOP players there is no way on Gods green earth you can tell uniformed people that the coach did not DEVELOP players. DEVELOPING players or any sort of individual must start at the beginning and not at the start of the players High school carear. It's common sense people, all you need to do is stop listening to the so called experts(certian parents)and keep an open mind. Then take the time to research the situation and form YOU'RE OWN opionion. It's not rocket surgery or even brain science people it's just a simple game. Sauk Rapids Has some serious issues with their hockey program that I personally would never want to be involved with. Good luck Sauk Rapids hockey. Hopefully you can DEVELOP into program with common sense.

Heard over the weekend!!!
Just heard that Jerry D has put his app. in for this postion! Must not have very many good candidates! Didn't he have some problems in his past? Also heard that the youth hockey president has stepped down and is waviering his kid to St. Cloud! Looks like they are on a steep down hill slide in Sauk! Good luck Parents!!!!

Former player for Sauk Rapids-Rice
As a former player who played for Coach Weston I would like to comment on a few things.
One: I don't know about other hockey associations but Sauk Rapids-Rice was nothing but politics. It appeared to other players and myself even at young ages that this program was driven by politics and for a awhile nobody had big enough balls to say something was wrong with the way this association was being ran.
Two: High school hockey in Minnesota is like football in Texas, The rivalries and competition are intense. Weston wanted to Win. He wanted to put the best players on the ice. There's nothing wrong with that but, the way he went about it was wrong! Parents didn't complain because Sauk Rapids wasn't wining they complained because not every player had the same opportunity as others. As a former player for Sauk Rapids I can say with no doubt in my mind that my high school career would have been more successful if I had been given that opportunity but, Weston Favored kids including his son and others that I wont mention.
Three: I know there's readers in this forum that are stubborn and say that those kids shouldn't go home crying and it's the parents fault that Weston got canned. How would you feel as a parent if your child wanted to desperately play but was not given the same opportunity. Now I'm not talking about kids that can't flat out stand on skates but kids that actually were just as good as the others but were not given a shot. You cant tell me that you wouldn't be a little pissed off.
Lastly: As a former player of Weston's he was an okay guy but just let his competitiveness get in the way of being a role model and leader for this hockey program. I wish Weston the best of luck in Monticello and hopefully he will give that program and all there kids a fair opportunity to succeed. The truth is though I'm glad to see Sauk Rapids-Rice get rid of the dictators in that program and bring in some new faces that want to win just as bad but care about other just as much.

Thats a very fair post 9er.... But will you please answer a few questions for me if you would....
1. If he is so focused on winning, why did their youth teams play at the B level??? Was he part of that? (Sounds to me the parents were more worried the winning!)
2. You never got a chance??? Is that true? Did you understand the systems? Did you play JV and did they run the same systems?
3. Did you do everything possible to give yourself a chance?
Too many coaches get blamed for this and it usually amounts to either the kid dosen't get it or flat out refuses to play it!
As far as Monti goes he will have his hands full and will be tested right out of the chute! And if things don't go well we will all hear about it on this board!
