Why not? Other districts allow tryouts.
District 10 allows tryouts they allow every High school player that is of age with their coaches recommendation, all Bantam A teams receive at least 2 players whether the deserve it or not; and then all 60 or so end up at a tryout which 30 are picked. And 30 becomes twenty in another 3 weeks.
That sounds like a tryout. You would like everyone that can qualify by age to tryout? No matter how skilled or unskilled.
The advanced program was designed to give the upper players an opportunity at a national level against players their own age from the other USA Hockey districts. Not every kid that ever laced them up.
And the top kids can be picked in a matter of shifts and so can the bottom...its the 80% in the middle that you spend all the time on.

For such a big district it sounds like there are questions towards tryouts which maybe D10 can help you with solutions to their unique selection process. If the U16 for Centennial can skate their way to the state runner up then obviously you are totally missing the "80%" in the middle or the Bantam program has just imploded. Advance 15 for D10 is a selection process by coaches....politics.

I takes a lot of guts to go after a program that has been as successful as this one in the last 10 years. 2 state titles, 6 title game appearances, and a VFW championship.Ugottobekiddingme wrote: If the U16 for Centennial can skate their way to the state runner up then obviously you are totally missing the "80%" in the middle or the Bantam program has just imploded.
Agreed this last year did not live up to the standards set in the previous years, but lets see if they continue to be poor before we call the Bantam program "imploded"

It takes more than guts here is the reality:
2001 state champs
2002 vfw state champs
2003 state runner up
2003 state vfw champs
2004 vfw state
2005 state runner up
2006 state champs
2007 state runner up
2008 state runner up
Now this about the Advanced 15's not the domination of Centennial's Bantam A team. By the way I think their old coach is part of the D10 staff. I'm sure politics played a part in that team also?

The current teams, and pipeline, aren't all that swell. They obviously had some solid leadership previously but think they took their eye off recruiting.
5 Bantam teams
6 PeeWee teams
5 Squirt teams (ouch, should have 8-10)
3 14U teams
2 12U teams
3 10U teams (that ain't good)
Without total numbers the future is not bright.

I'm wondering if the association boundaries have shifted....I thought someone told me that some that have previously belonged to Centennial (based on residence) are now at Blaine....I could be wrong, though.observer wrote:The current teams, and pipeline, aren't all that swell. CNF not trying to correct you. You know more about the youth ranks than anyone on this board.
I am just trying to help out the hater, I believe this guy is a Centennial guy even though I see Go Elks. He has an axe to grind with the association and the district but he won't answer the question.
Centennial has the highest attainment of all the associations in D10 playing hockey even though it is not the largest area in the district. Doesn't matter if the expectation is to be in a state title game every year we are all crazy.
Once again where are the politics in the D10 tryout?

Yawn....hater??? I love it every time Centennial moves us into regions. Again, read the D10 handbook....it's a selection process. History is no longer repeating itself here boyz and now it's time for a new hockey dynasty. Now for my final magic trick, I'm going to turn fire and ice into water...Poof. D10 advanced is a social event.

Actually pretty clever on the magic trick. But I'm still here.
When are you going to answer the question?
You have attacked District 10, Centennial as a program, I am looking for hard facts, and I suspect other people are as well. I have countered your comments with facts. The least you can do is answer the original question.
I have to say that the whole Advanced phases are a social event for the parents, coaches to a point, but probably not so much for the players. They receive a pretty large advantage the better they do for future considerations.
Dynasties come and go. I am not interested in that discussion.
I want to know about the politics on the D10 squad and then how the other districts "tryouts are better" and more fair than D10.

Here are some game updates to the extent of my knowledge.

Update from New Hope
Semis
D 8 5
D 10 4
Did NOT see the first half, but it was tied 4-4 when I arrived. In my opinion District 8 controlled play and must have sent 20 shots at Hunter Miska (North Branch Varsity) who made several spectacular saves to keep the score tied. With under two minutes to go D8 scored on a clean shot to win it.
Miska was very good. D8 advanced and they are the better team
D 6 5
D 3 4
Line of Fasching (AV) Labosky and Moore (BSM) were super and I really enjoyed watching Parker Reno (Edina) on defense.
Taylor Cammarette from Shattuck (D3) was the best player on the ice though as he really stickhandled well and set up his teammates. Not big, but his stickhandling and puck sense was very good.
Very very enjoyable game to watch.
Should be a fun title game. 1:15pm at New Hope NOrth on Sunday.
Third place game is at 11:15.

Re: Update from New Hope
Like I've said before.... There was no better freshman goalie than Hunter Miska. Hope North Branch will be able to keep him for the next three years.F14 wrote:Semis

D3 4 in Overtime
Penalty shot in the game as well. Pretty good game.

Yeah thats why they took 4th place. LOLmghockey18 wrote:Taylor Cammaratta was the best player in the tournament. Hands down.
Maybe if he played both sides of the rink I would agree with you but as long as he slowly backchecks ( if at all) and watchs the opposing team score you can't say he is the best player out there. I beleive he scored only 2 goals in the entire tournament (both in the last game ). I wonder what his + and - was for the tourney. He scores 2 in the last game and ends up even in that game? Got to think he was probably a - for the tourney. Just my personal thoughts on him. He is a GOOD PLAYER but has to learn there is two sides to the game. He will for sure be invited to St. Cloud don't get me wrong.

I agree.
There's a lot of hype surrounding him and a lot of people expecting him to be putting up hat tricks and multiple goal games consistently based on just looking at his Shattuck stat sheet, however as a poster above mentioned he scored perhaps less than expected, yet still remained a dominant player.
He moved the puck phenomenally well, worked corners well, and the kid sees the ice better than anyone at his age group in my opinion.

I have seen my fair share of players go through the system. I can assure you he is on the same level as Jordan Schroeder when he was a Select 15..a ice person wrote:Yeah thats why they took 4th place. LOLmghockey18 wrote:Taylor Cammaratta was the best player in the tournament. Hands down.
