CCM Minnesota High School Hockey National Invitational Announced
04/13/2010, 3:51pm (CDT)
By Minnesota Hockey
Tournament will feature top high school players from four states April 23-25, 2010
Minnesota Hockey has announced details for the inaugural CCM Minnesota High School Hockey National Invitational. The round-robin tournament will occur April 23rd – 25th at the Plymouth Ice Center and will feature teams comprised of top high school players from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Michigan.
“There will be scouts from several NHL teams and collegiate programs at this tournament, “ said Mike MacMillan, executive director of the Minnesota High School Coaches Association “Many high school players have the potential to play at the next level after their high school career is over and this tournament will give these young men another chance to demonstrate their abilities.”
Two teams from Minnesota will compete in the tournament. The Minnesota 18U Selects will feature the top players from the recently concluded Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Advanced 18 Festival. The Minnesota Senior All-Stars will be comprised of the most outstanding players from the 26th annual Ted Brill Great 8 Tournament that occurred March 26th – 28th.
“In the past we sent our teams to the Chicago Showcase Tournament to give these players additional exposure” said Barry Ford, Minnesota Hockey Vice President of Hockey Operations. “This tournament affords the same exposure for these players without having to invest the additional time and money to go to Chicago.”
As part of the extensive Reebok-CCM partnership with Minnesota Hockey, CCM will be the title partner of the tournament. “Supporting this tournament is a very important piece of our relationship with Minnesota Hockey” said Steve Rixe, Regional Sales Representative for Reebok-CCM Hockey Inc.. “ Everyone at CCM is proud to be part of such an exciting new hockey event in Minnesota.”
Admission to the Invitational is $6 for adults and $4 for youth/seniors.

According to the rankings below, it turns out that Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Dakota are the top 4 teams over the past 13 years in the Chicago Showcase.
If the organizers of this tournament want to have an even number of teams next year, perhaps they should consider adding Missouri, who are #5 in this ranking and did not attend the new showcase in Pittsburgh this year either.
Running the USHSHO rankings formula on the 1997-2009 Showcase scores results in the following ranking for the 29 teams that have played at least 10 games in the Chicago Showcase.

I'm not in high school anymore.johnnyquest wrote:your post caught me completely off guard. I expected excuses and a jab back at me. I am impressed with your post E.O.
If you ever want to get rich, just bet the opposite of my predictions! Thankfully, for the first time this year, I didn't pick SCSU to win their first round NCAA Tournament game in my office pool!!
Team Wisconsin ended up winning the first Minnesota Showcase (or Minnesota NIT, whatever you call it.). A wisconsin kid, Max McCormick, also lead the entire tournament in goals and points. Good showing for TW. From what i hear it was a very good inaugral tourney, kudos to the folks in MN for putting it on.

MitchHawker is correct. The TW Elite League team is comprised of a team of kids that can be of any high school age if they are good enough. The TW Showcase team is, and always will be, Seniors only. They are chosen from a Seniors only tourney they try out for after the season, then they play in the tourney, and the "best" senior kids from that tourney then go up and play as TW in the showcase.
That said Team Wisconsin's participation in the Minnesota Showcase (NIT) has already paid off for two Team Wisconsin team members. Hockey in Wisconsin has learned that forward Max Strasser from Beaver Dam & defenseman Brian Kemp from Fond du Lac have been offered and will accept tenders from Owatonna of the NAHL. Congratulations to both players on working hard to get where they are today. Those two also are reported to have had multiple D1 schools contact them with high degrees of interest and two NHL scouts also contacted Max McCormick after his performace in the tourney. Several other TW Showcase kids are also to be rumored to be tendered by various NAHL teams in the coming weeks. So it seems this tourney did what it was supposed to do and that is fantastic IMO (it should be noted McCormick, despite being Mr. Hockey in WI, had no NHL interest and no definitive D1 interest before this tourney, )and Strasser had no tenders from junior teams before this tourney and no D1 schools talking to him).
