these whole tournaments are all about reputation, money, and relationships. If u didnt make the team and a kid that is not good made it in your eyes, get used to it because it happens a lot. i would just be nice if u got the break once in a while though right. Unless the kid makes the final cut and does well in the final tournament thing, the whole deal is meaningless. :)
Russiawithlove,

It is not meaningless. It is an honor to be recommended by your high school coach to tryout for your regional team. He felt highly of you.

It is an honor to make your sectional team. Local evaluators felt you could help at the next level.

It is an honor to make the final 54. USA Hockey evaluators noticed something you did right.

It is an honor to make the final team. You consistently excelled throughout the process and have been rewarded.

Wherever your ride ends, keep it in perspective. Only a few kids from each school get the honor of participating in this process. Wear that badge proudly. Even if you got cut early, you have participated....which most Minnesota kids did not get that opportunity. It is not meaningless.

It's only meaningless to the coaches' kids who are nominated by their fathers and don't deserve to be there. I'll assume that this is a relatively rare occurrence, but I have seen some obvious situations. Wait, I guess it is meaningful to them, too, or why else would they do it?

Good post conditioningsucks I was going to add the same comments but you beat me to the punch. I would just like to add that it is a good experience for all kids just to make the section teams and play at this event as the competition is very good.

I agree that some players made it through based on what they CAN do and not exactly what they DID do. I think that is the way it should be to some extent. The process is to identify the best players, NOT who played the best 3 games, so my opinion is that past performance is weighed as well as the Festival games. I did watch a lot of the games this past weekend, and these are a few names I expected to see a lot more from and who I believe made the 16's Final 54 mostly on their past play and not what they did during the Festival.
Besse
Pilot
O'Borsky
Arentz
MacQueen
Coatta
Nanne
Carney
All of these players are definitely very talented, so they may play great and make the final team.

Goalies are extremely difficult to evaluate, and rarely can you look at just numbers from such a small section of games like the 3 day Festival. Amsden was solid, he made a few highlight reel saves in the 16's championship, and his play during 16's was good enough to make it to the Final 54. I don't believe that he is better then Franke or Thompson though, just had a better weekend. Even though Thompson didn't have a great weekend in my opinion, I believe he is more talented then most of the other goalies on the Final 54.

This is who I think are the best players from what I've seen over the last year and in last weekend's tournament, not just who had the best weekends at the Festival. Yes some of them will have to play better during the Final 54 process to make the Final Team.
My prediction for the Final 16's Team:

Goalies
Franke Elk River
Thompson Denfeld

Defense
Skjei Lakeville North
Johnson Hill Murray
Peterson St Cloud Tech
Freburg Maple Grove
Horton BSM
Aspinwall Maple Grove

Forwards
Michaelson Apple Valley
Osterberg Lakeville South
Steman Maple Grove
Torrel Monticello
Roo Totino Grace
Arentz Lakeville North
Jancze Hill Murray
Faust Hill Murray
Randolph Duluth East
Stepan Shattuck

A quick check from last years Final Advanced 15 Team and there are 6 players from that team that did not even make the Final 54. There will be at least 3 forwards, 2 defensemen, and 1 goalie new to the 16's Team.

My money is on Red: tremendous D-Core and outstanding forwards with strong goaltending...

Second place bet on Blue...
Yea, red team looks a little more stacked than the blue team. Then there is the sisters of the poor white team

Then again, I was 0-3 with my picks during the spring festival, so consider the source

Tony Paulson from Maple Grove was more impressive than Steman last weekend....At least from my perspective.
