I don't think he needs the respect or the money, he's got plenty of each. Being in the NHL would mean even more travel than college hockey. I guess it comes down to what Housley wants to do just for the fun/challenge of it. That could be contuning to coach the Ponies, maybe college, maybe ECHL/AHL/NHL, or maybe he'll try to latch on to whatever junior team his kid goes to.StayAtHomeD wrote:I would think they could put Housley right into the NHL as an assistant and he would fit right in. He was the ultimate pro hockey player. The way he took care of his body and his work ethic is legendary. I would think he would get much more respect in the NHL.The Exiled One wrote:The first assistant coach at many major college programs is expected to develop the defensemen and recruit. Obviously, he should do a fair job at developing defensemen. And, I don't know how Housley would feel about flying all over North America talking to kids, but with his name recognition, he would probably do pretty well at it. I would agree with you that he doesn't seem to have the pedigree to be a collegiate head coach... yet.Pioneerprideguy wrote:Rather than dwell on what he accomplished as a player, people should look at what he has done as a coach. I doubt he has any shot at coaching in a major college program, but coaches looking to hire will look at his coaching resume first.
I wonder if Mr Housley will coach HS again in 2010?
