My Guess would be that he wont be back at Stillwater but come on poniesDad45 "insight and experience" he is painful to listen to with his repeating of the same obvious insights, yes it is kind of fun to listen to his verbal fumbles one after another but it is very distracting to the average interested hockey fan I believe.PoniesDad45 wrote:Heh.Pioneerprideguy wrote:PoniesDad45 wrote:I suppose it's easy to ridicule a guy doing a job like that. HM & WBL will try to make this an annual event for your listening pleasure.![]()
I wonder if Phil will be coaching next year since Wilson is graduating?

I'm not arguing here because what you're saying is probably true. I just don't really notice it much. I enjoy the job he does, maybe because he isn't a pollished TV guy-seems more like a kid from South St Paul!GVvikes wrote:My Guess would be that he wont be back at Stillwater but come on poniesDad45 "insight and experience" he is painful to listen to with his repeating of the same obvious insights, yes it is kind of fun to listen to his verbal fumbles one after another but it is very distracting to the average interested hockey fan I believe.PoniesDad45 wrote:Heh.Pioneerprideguy wrote:

Why cut him slack, he's GOT to know he's ........ ummmm not very smooth and wouldn't some self respect tell you to turn down the offer ? its distracting ... kinda like a train wreck. Can't ignore it.northwoods oldtimer wrote:You boys are rough on ol' Phil. He is doing his best. heck give the guy a break for crying out loud. Not a professional announcer so you have to give him a little slack.

His commentating is great.. Even tho biased for edina he knows what hes talking about , doesnt stumble over his words, tells you things you actually DONT know about the game or the team and keeps it interesting .. Housley is a joke ... But Im sure we will hear his " if the goalie didnt stop that, it would have been a goal " commentary soon enough

I'm sure he appreciates you standing up.PoniesDad45 wrote:Since I don't know him personally and have never met the man I don't quite understand this.davinci wrote:When are you gonna quit kissing this guys butt.PoniesDad45 wrote:I suppose it's easy to ridicule a guy doing a job like that. I respect the man so maybe I feel the need to stand up for him when so many take cheap shots at him constantly.
I hear negative things about him occassionally from parents, but never from his players. They love playing for the guy. So he is a multi millionaire who volunteers his time to coach a team, do TV play by play. Yep, he's a terrible guy![]()
Like I said, maybe he deserves to be stood up for.

To all of your complaints that will be posted about Phil Housley and any other media specialist throughout the State Tournament.
I'd bet that the majority of you guys and gals couldn't do any better.

Then apply for the job so that everyone can cut you down next year.Goldy Gopher wrote:I take that bet. There is 0 doubt in my mind that I could do a better job.wbmd wrote:![]()

If I was getting paid what he is I would take the time, do the research, know my stuff and do a much better job than he does.wbmd wrote:Then apply for the job so that everyone can cut you down next year.Goldy Gopher wrote:I take that bet. I don't think he's getting paid, and if he is, it's not much...Goldy Gopher wrote:If I was getting paid what he is I would take the time, do the research, know my stuff and do a much better job than he does.wbmd wrote:Then apply for the job so that everyone can cut you down next year.Goldy Gopher wrote: I take that bet. The job Housley has done on the air is absolutely pitiful, and has never improved. If you are getting paid to do this, at least put a little studying in before you get on the air -- it's not like you have a day job! Just because you were a good player doesn't mean you will be a good announcer or a good coach. All this proves is that the station has no standards for quality; rather, they just want a 'famous' name and they hope no one will notice the eighth grade vocabulary and syntax being used. It's an insult to our intelligence for them to assume the viewers are satisfied with this guy after all the years he's been on--if they cared what the viewers think they'd get a decent replacement. Of course they will never boot him; hopefully he wises up and sees he's doing more bad than good to his reputation doing this job.
