Is Cloquet's Bantam A Roster Legal?

Post by The Trap »

I heard #20 on Cloquet's current Bantam A team that qualified for State was on Proctor's Bantam A roster at the start of the season. The rumor was he was suspended for bad conduct by the Proctor team so he quit and ended up on Cloquet's roster 2 weeks later. I guess he is going to school at Cloquet now, but his residency is very suspect at best. Anyone else in the Proctor/Duluth area heard anything on this?

Sounds like quite the "situation" for someone to deal with. Good luck.

You could probably answer a lot of your own questions by looking up some of rules regarding rosters, residency etc...... the Minnesota Hockey web site wouldn't be a bad place to start.

I heard all about it alright. He had family issues and the poor kid didnt have much to play for living in proctor. Residential areas make it so hes 100% legal. I looked it up. you know what? he created an account just to say this. He has one post and one post only. I think you need to quit your whining kid and go do something that will get you somewhere. There are plenty of better things to do in life then to whine. Id say a good start is to cancel your account and hit the weight room or go skate. :)

You sound like you speak from experience with the 5 posts and all. Couple of questions as I have read the rules also:

What constitutes taking up legal residence under Minnesota Hockey rules?

Is it possible, or even believable considering the circumstances of his departure from Proctor to move in 2 weeks time?

Is he living with his legal parents/guardians?

Very suspect at best.

Like I said, what constitutes legal guardians? His sister? Can the system appoint a new legal guardian in 2 weeks time?

If you want the answer to the roster question I would suggest contacting Pete Hill the D11 Director. There are loopholes to the residency issue. But does it really matter? This kid goes to school in Cloquet and should play for Cloquet. I am a firm supporter of the new rule this year that allows kids to play for the association their school resides in.

Rosters are not final until January 1.

A kid can waive wherever they want, provided the association losing the kid signs off on the waiver and the association receiving the kid signs off on the waiver (and District Director gives final sign off).

But this doesn't sound like a waiver issue, just a change in residency. In that case, there are no issues here. He is crossed off of the Procter roster and added to Cloquet's. As long as he was added before January 1, no issue.

If this was an issue (which it isn't) it should have been addressed immediately, not right before the state tournament. At this point, you would be punishing the other 15 or so kids on the team for something that isn't their fault. I agree, as long as he was on the roster prior to Jan 1 than it doesn't matter. Good Luck to Cloquet in the state tournament.

Its only an issue to "The Trap"- Obviously Cloquet beat his team or his kids team and he is upset.

Little town of Cloquet now has 26 Bantam Players instead of 25 and they make it to state and someone is whining
