state tournament being at the X

Post by slapshot445 »

I have heard from many players that they would much rather play in ridder than in the x because the atmosphere would be so much better. Does anyone agree with this idea?

no i don't agree first because the majority of the players would rather play at the X and second because it will never get moved unless the boys does so it isn't even worth talking about anymore.

Had to come out of retirement for this one. I was at each of the three days of the girls state tournament this year. Biggest crowd I saw was at the day games on Thursday. Why? Because the kids get out of school to attend!

If MSHSL would hold the entire tournament W-TH-F during the day, the attendance would skyrocket. The kids will do anything for a day off, so if their attendance at the event keeps them from getting a truancy, they'll be there.

Duh, if you show it when the kids have an incentive, the attendance will rise.

As for the adults - there are many whiners that complain about the X but do they attend? I think, for the most part, they do not. Ditto on "did they attend at Ridder or the horse barn at the State Fairgrounds in years past?"

BTW I don't have a kid in high school any longer - I was at the state tournament supporting girls hockey. I also go to Ridder frequently to support college women's hockey - even though my favorite women's WHCA team is NOT the Golden Ground Squirrels.

Why not hold it at Aldrich? That is plenty big enough.

There is a five year contract that was renewed in 2008 so State girls will be at the X until at least 2013.

The link should take you to the MSHSL board minutes.

For what it is worth I did not notice the class A boys tourney drew appreciably more people than the girls tourney. A lot of empty seats there too.
