"Technically" then, I suppose the powers that be at Minnesota Hockey and the tournement got it wrong......no they didn't. Refer to tournement rules on the Minnesota Hockey website. In a tie situation in pool play, the first tiebreaker is the score between the tied teams. Meaning only the games between the tied teams. Elk River was at 2-1, if Fergus beat Roseau, both Roseau and Fergus would be at 2-1, Brainerd ended the tournement at 0-3. Only the games between Roseau, Fergus Falls, and Elk River would be counted in the tie breaker. Elk River beat Fergus Falls 4-3 and lost to Roseau 5-3...aggregrate of 7-8. Fergus Falls lost to Elk River 3-4...so All Fergus Falls had to do was beat Roseau by a goal and their goal differential would've been even compared to Elk River's -1. They would've had to beat Roseau by 4 in order for them to have the tie breaker on Roseau. All teams knew this and that is why everyone stayed to watch. The fact that Elk River beat Brainerd 6-0 meant nothing accept that they were at 2-1 in the pool and would be in 2nd place if Fergus loses nothing else.
So I was off by a goal. an Awefully long response for being off by a goal. Sorry your team did not make it.
Oh, I see...... you were saying that Fergus had to beat Roseau by 5 in order to beat out Elk River and Roseau.... I read your post as a response to the statement that Elk River had to wait untill the end of the Fergus v Roseau game to see if they made it to Sunday.... which is what my recap of the day stated...which was the post that you quoted in your response........
Fergus Falls would've no doubt had to dig very deep in order to beat Blaine.... they already had taken down Roseau twice this year but didn't seem to have enough gas left last night. I am very surprised that Elk River beat Blaine....great job to them.. I could see how it likely happened though..Elk River was likely a little more concentrated on the game...
