All-Star team??? Pretty sure there are no all-star teams in this section. How could an all star team be a #2 seed in Section 1??
I guess Faribault was over-rated! Seriously, the only reason Lourdes has hockey is to be an All Star team.
This might be the dumbest thing I have ever seen on this board. The only reason Lourdes has hockey is to be an all star team??????
You are either someone who played JV as a senior at Lourdes or you are totally clueless about what you are talking about. All Star team? How many State titles do they have in hockey???? An All Star team to me is a team that would at least make it to State most years. Wow! Clueless.
What a comeback! Clueless! Not to go off subject, but if it wasn't for parents sending their kids to private schools to play hockey on All Star teams, most private schools would be out of business like they were going until they got the idea of being sports factories catering to those who want that service, just like Wisconsin AAA teams and other "club" teams. I have nothing against All Star teams, if they play each other when it counts; conference and section and state. I will not bore you anymore with the facts you choose not to know.
If you guys want to watch the game tonight you can. The Post Bulletin is having a live video stream connected to a live blog of the game. It's on the first page of the website.
Eagles are heading back to state with a 3-0 win over the Wingers. Congrats to Rochester Lourdes hopefully this team that wasnt supposed to make noise in the section playoffs is heading back to state!

Great atmosphere at the REC tonight. One of the best games I've seen this year. They finally found some good refs. Nick Heimer came up big, especially near the end of the 2nd period. He had to stop a penalty shot and the Wingers kept throwing good shots at him. This team will be a team to watch out for at state if Heimer can play like he did tonight.
Good clean game, pretty good officiating as well, the story of the game was Amendolar giving up 3 fat rebounds that resulted in the three goals.
Red Wing dominated the physical play the whole game, almost every 30 seconds there was a Lourdes player on his butt, but ultimately the Lourdes played a whale of a defensive game; Red Wing could not do anything in the neutral zone and the dump and chase was not working at all.
I disagree with Heimer being a factor, he had three quality saves, the rest where wrist shots with nobody out front, Heimer benefited from great defensive play the whole game, Red Wing only had a select few quality chances and one was a penalty.
If they play a team in State that can skate the puck across the blue line instead of dump and chase the Lourdes will be in trouble, but they have the dump and chase defense down pat.
Hats off to the Lourdes, they were just the better team tonight.

I heard from a friend at the game that he missed the net on the penalty shot?? Anyways, congrats to Lourdes. Very surprising considering all they lost last year.
in 1A hockey the team that gets the lead usually wins. Lourdes got the lead and sat on it which is good, smart hockey but doesn't make for an interesting game, the third period was like watching paint dry but again that's exactly the way Lourdes wanted it and rightly so. Red Wing did the same to Faribault last week.
The puck bounced Lourdes way and they were good enough to capitalize. Their style of play can be boring but it is effective, they'd lose an up and down game but by playing tight good defense, winning races to the puck and not making stupid turnovers or taking dumb penalties like they have the last part of the year they have a chance with anyone in St. Paul, the downside is anyone has a chance with them as well.
I was wrong about the score of this game and the winner. Lourdes looked pretty darn good tonight in my opinion. They will be tough to beat if they play the team defense they did tonight, like someone said earlier. I think they could upset anyone at State but they along with everyone else is hoping they do not draw STA or Breck. If not, it could get interesting for them if they play the way they are capable.
I have been to about 4 Lourdes games this year and this is the best they looked at any of them.

Guess we'll see.
Lourdes will be the section favorite for the forseeable future, just like Saint Thomas and Breck, sense a trend?

Get over it!
I am "over" it, you were the one who seemed to be blind to the fact that all the real schools in section 1A will not have much chance against a team that is bought and paid for to get to the tournament from now on, but I guess those teams are only for the scouts (if you are one), media and parents, no one else cares (for the All Star teams). I feel sorry for all the teams in the state, especially in class A who have to play kids who are some of the best players who would have gone to AA schools stocking single A teams beating up on them, now there's real sportsmanship!
I'm "over" it, I'm just amazed it's allowed to happen.
Lourdes was shutout by Northfield and the two local teams (who are some of the worst in the area), Holy Family and Mound Westonka beat them.
They are officially ineligible to be called an all star team.
The situation in Rochester is a tough one, while I have no axe to grind with private schools, 1 A team in bantams and 4 high schools with really only one community to draw your players from makes this very difficult for the public schools to compete. In the metro privates are able to bolster their rosters with kids from any number of different programs, no such luxury exists in Rochester. Last years bantam A team was top notch and if I'm not mistaken a fair number of those kids CHOSE Lourdes. The public schools are then left splitting the remainder 3 ways. Very dificult to compete with metro teams given this set of circumstances.

I'll start:
Kurth Mayo 9th
Chezick Mayo 9th
Vesel - Kellogg
Samuelson - Kellogg
That said when Mayo picks up 2 kids from Austin and 1 from Dodge County, Century gets a JM kid and has picked up an occasional kid from Winona, and JM gets a kid from Dodge County I can't really find any fault with Lourdes other than I wish they'd go to AA instead of trophy hunt in A knowing they have an advanrage not only overthe 1A schools but also many of the 1AA schools.
Bantam A's: conveniently forgetting who didn't go to Lourdes...
Brock Kautz-perhaps best bantam goalie in the state (Century)
Four top defensemen- Brandon Kautz, Lakin, Broman, Travis to Century and JM
Top scorers- Tyler Vessel (Shattuck), Jacobs (Century)
Mainly roll-players to Lourdes, good kids, but "trophies"?
Not one Mayo district kid on that team
Don't disagree that Roch needs more than one A team (elitism cuts both ways)
Funny that an "all-star team" has to play sophs and freshmen and only has 5 seniors...would think that any hand-picked team would be loaded with JRs and SRs, no?
The Vesel boys both went to Catholic school thru 6th grade
Public school doesn't work for every family
Lourdes is not a private school. Anyone can attend, but you do have to pay tuition ($7K) IN ADDITION TO PAYING FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS thru taxes. Tuition support is available for financial need (NOT for the needs of the sports teams)
The recruiting argument just doesn't fly unless you are implying that the school is paying the tuition, which it isn't. Like most church schools, money is very tight.
JM and Mayo are suffering demographic changes, Century is doing well for the same reason. Guarantee young families are choosing where they live for similar reasons, good or bad.
Nothing wrong with choice (aka freedom).
Don't think the 1AA argument flys well with a town of 95K population feeding 4 high schools. JM and Lourdes have both seen notable decreases in enrollment, Lourdes has a TOTAL of 430 kids. JM may not be far from 1A status in hockey. Lourdes student popuation is pretty run-of-the-mill academically, too, hardly a top to bottom prep school.

Not sure on this goldy, but I would think if it were up to the coaches at Lourdes they would prefer to play in AA as the sections have in my opinion been easier in AA probably the majority of the past years. Maybe LS or LN would have been more of a challenge than in the past but I would prefer 1AA than 1A in my opinion.
