Now that the dust has settled post district playoffs, lets hear about your district playoffs and commentary on which teams carried a lucky horseshoe and advanced or which notable teams stumbled and missed regions.
Looks like district 2 and 6 finished about as expected. What about the others? Looks like some teams that were top 20 most or all of the season didn't get a region berth.

Please…can I get a little more credit than that?
I may be guilty of a poorly phrased topic / question but I’m not guilty of trying to hack anyone down.
Let’s try this again…
Playoff time always provides us with cool stories about those Cinderella runs through the playoffs, minor upsets that thrilled the crowd or even the rare major upset that nobody saw coming. And of course there is always the utter domination that everyone saw coming. I thought it would be neat to create a placeholder here where those stories could be captured for all to enjoy.
Here are a few examples of what I mean:
District 11
Hermantown and the Duluth Lakers played each other 4 times this season. Way back in November they tied 5-5. The Lakers then went on to win 3 in row throughout the season 7-4, 3-2 and 4-2. However, Hermantown turned to tables on the Lakers in D11 tournament play and beat them 3-1 in what I am assuming was considered a little bit of an upset or maybe even a little more than that. I’m sure it was jumping inside that arena that night. Both of these teams advance to regions and it is very possible they could play each other on Sunday in a cross over game to go to state.
District 10
Elk River had played Andover twice during the season. They skated to a 3–3 tie in the weeks leading up to Christmas. At the end of January, the Elks won the second match-up 3-2. However, Andover managed to sneak past Elk River 3-1 in the District Championship game and walked away with the #1 seed for D10. Some might consider that a bit of an upset seeing Elk River was 14-1 in district play this year. Will they meet in regions? Only time will tell.
District 2
White Bear had beaten Stillwater two times during the regular season, 4-2 in early December and 3-2 in the middle of January. These two perennial D2 favorites met last Saturday in the D2 championship game. The game started out going White Bear’s way when a Stillwater defenseman scored on his on net. An errant pass from the high slot that was meant for the boards behind the net wound up being a strategically placed 5-hole shot that the goalie never expected. However, White Bear’s 2-1 third period lead didn’t hold up as the Ponies came charging back to steal the D2 championship and the #1 seed with a 3-2 win. A little bit of an upset? Maybe…But both teams advance to regions and they could very likely meet on Sunday for chance to go to state. Oh…and the North regional is held at Stillwater this year. If that Sunday match-up comes to fruition…the Stillwater Blizzard arena will be jumping on Sunday afternoon.
And what about D6?
Looks like Burnsville and Edina traded hay makers over the weekend in the D6 playoff. Burnsville finally managed to get over the hump and beat Edina 5-4 on Saturday which I am sure many considered to be a little bit of an upset (Edina won the first 4 match-ups this season)...The Blaze then went on to lose to Edina 5-4 on Sunday. Look out East regional...quite possibly here comes the two best teams in the state.
There…that’s what I meant. Would love to read more stories like these…

In D11, Hermantown beating the Lakers was not a huge upset really. Other than the 7-4 game earlier in the year, the others were close and right down to the wire. The Lakers were dealing with some minor injuries, but that is not an excuse, Hermantown wanted that game more. Hermantown deserves credit because not matter how their regular season goes, the coaches have them dialed in at playoff time every year.
Cloquet not making it was a surprise and I agree they were playing their best hockey down the stretch. If they had the higher seed coming into the D11 playoffs, they would likely have advanced. Having to win 2 games to get in was what hurt them.
Regions should be interesting and I would not want to have to put money on who will advance to state.
