Wouldnt it be great if Hill Murray lost to MV, WBL or Still.

PVT vs Public
So let's say the conservative numbers of kids playing hockey in a City Association is well over 500 from Mite to Bantams. For most of the cities around Hill Murray we can say it is a lot more then that.
So they develop a kid and he is catholic and decides to continue his ducation at a catholic High School. Out of that 500 kids he is 1. Maybe at best he has another friend that goes with him so it is 2. Still we have about 50 other kids in those associations that are playing in high school level. Plus there are kids that go to other city public schools on open enrollment, but we can not say anything about that, at least they stay public. So, really the current high school only has about 45 kids to pick their 16 roster from. How do we expect a highschool coach to ever put a team togther that could compete. Afterall we lost the best 2 maybe 4 kids to other schools like Hill. With that thinking how does any professional team ever win if they do not get the number one pick!
Stop pointing fingers at kids that excel and want a better education or hockey experience. Instead ask yourself why do we not challenge the High school to give a better education or push the coach to get the best out of his kids. I know, it is much easier to point the finger.

I find it funny when folks on here say it's a Catholic thing. I'm sure there are plenty of great Catholic football and basketball players in the area...... Why do they not go to Hill? The answer is pretty obvious.
I Commented on how the future looked bright for White Bear HS with 7 kids on my sons AAA team this summer. He responded, "My son is going to Hill and it sounds like the rest of them are also."
I talked to another dad from a different birth year and he chuckled when I mentioned WB HS.
It's pretty obvious to me that WB would have done better than Hill if the kids had stayed home. It's a Catholic School thing though.

So you label others as trailer trash while talking about their misgivings?ubugme wrote:But I suppose its easier to sit back in your double wide and blame something other than your own misgivings....
I don't have any deep seated hatred for the privates, but I admit that I hold a smidgeon of disdain for them. Never the kids themselves mind you (my nephew plays for BSM), but will never have a problem rooting against them so long as their programs are spread throughout several different sections.

I guess I'll just chalk this one up to an inexperienced poster. Try again in English.

I don't fault the private schools for trying to succeed. They are not "stealing" kids from the associations. Don't underestimate the quality coaching private schools (especially HM) gets. I believe good coaching at any big High School (400+ per class) and you have the makings of a quality athletics program. Discipline, confidence, and fairness goes along way in winning in high school sports. Don't know HM's coach but my guess he would win wherever he would coach. Doesn't strike me as a guy who believes in "moral victories". I like it when the best team on that day wins...funny how it usually works that way.

After reading this whole thread I felt it was necessary to point something out. HM supporters who claim education is part of the reason the hockey players attend the school -- its BS. Ask anyone on that team if they would attend HM if their wasn't a hockey team the answer would be a unanimous no. Some kids on the team wont even go straight to college but play juniors. So defend the hockey team all you want but don't talk about education.
Hill-Murray
Of course these kids and their parents are going to HM primarily for hockey. But there is also no question the school offers a great education, religion, smaller class sizes, service requirements, discipline, top drama and music programs, etc., etc. It's up to the kids and the parents how much they get out of those other things but they are there. I know a recent star hockey player who was a great actor in theatre productions. There are others that are top students. You can't stereotype them all as just hockey players. Some are. Good for them. They have great coaches and a chance every year to go to state.
I know this is slightly irrelevant, but...
Coming from WBL I, obviously, don't care much for HM or the players. However, I absolutely LOVE the rivalry. I wouldn't give it up for anything. As much as myself and my fellow Bears hate HM, we do have to appreciate the good things that the rivalry offers.

The word I bolded is the point. It is part. Hockey is part too.playhardcellyharder wrote:After reading this whole thread I felt it was necessary to point something out. So you're saying them going to juniors to get into a better school AND be able to play hockey has nothing to do with education?
Like it or not, many athletes get into colleges because of athletics. Their parents realize this. Athletics, and the people involved in them, are a huge part of a balanced education in today's world.

And he earned an award after the Ponies believed he was hurt and watched JJ skate around them (as if they were cones) and end the Ponies dream. Great Job Tim....they bought it. Re: Hill-Murray
I think it is time to lock up both of these Hill-Murray threads. I could make many a comment but I won't waste my time. This is not productive in a forum that's meant to discuss hockey, not mock individual kids and argue against their parents wishes to send them to a private school.gophs16 wrote:Well I heard Shaunessey is top in class, teacher gave him extra credit after last years section final.ubugme wrote:That kinda bugs me...stpaul wrote:... top drama programs...
