Who will win Bantam A state Tournament

Post by bigdaddydangler »

Teams to get into state:

West Region:
Blaine
Centennial

East Region (toughest Region) Dist 1,6,8
Woodbury
Minnetonka

South Region - District 3 has easiest path to State
OMG
Wayzata

North Region -
Duluth East
Grand Rapids

I can see Edina getting into State Tournament - they won 2 years ago at the PeeWee level. Northern teams - Duluth East and Grand Rapids will be tough competition at the State tournament. Very good hockey players, have not lost much during the season. Are they healthy and deep enough? Woodbury has only 4 losses on the season, can they make it out of a tough Region with District 6.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of your picks but I will wait until after this weekend to give you my 2 cents on the West Region.

I think picking Centennial is an upset! By all means it is not as tough a region as 8,6, 1. But I think the teams will be pretty evenly matched.

Personally I am not sure Centennial makes it out of their district. They should they have improved a ton this year. But shaky goaltending has really let them down. If they get there look for them to challenge Roseau for the top seed in the Region tourney and make it in.

My Picks.

West: Roseau, Centennial
North: East, Grand Rapids
East: Edina, Tonka (I think Woodbury goes down)
South: OMG, Wayzata

I'm not calling an upset, I'm just gonna wait to see who gets in and take it from there.

Who do you see as the third D10 team making it to region and who do you like out of D15 and D16?

There are going to be great games at districts and then even more at regions, it is way too early to make a call on who is in the state tournament or even who will win it as probably half of the poll choices could get knocked off in districts or regions.

How about we see who comes out of distrcts and regionals before we start picking a state champion.

Some nice picks, but rest assured there will be upsets. There always is!

I would be surprised to see any of the teams from D#15 and D#16 make it to State. Most likely 2 teams from District 10 will get to State - Blaine and ?. Centennial has tough track to get out of Districts with their loss to Coon Rapids 3-0 on Saturday. Looks like it will be Blaine as D10 #1, Coon Rapids as #2 and #3 will be a toss up between Centennial, Andover, Rogers?

#2 and #3 seeds in Districts lose in first round (Centennial and Andover)!!

Just found out Elk River beat Blaine 3-2. This throws a loop into #1,#2 #3 seedings. Blaine is a automatic seed either 2 or 3. The way this is going to play out Centennial faces Andover on Wednesday and the winner plays Blaine on Friday. Andover or Centennial will end there season by Wednesday. Coon Rapids faces St. Cloud in the other semi-final game. Both teams have beat each other during regular season. Elk River, St. Cloud or Coon Rapids will be the #1 seed. These 3 teams placed 4th, 6th and 7th in regular season play.

Is D10 really so strong that 4, 6, and 7 are locks over D15 and D16?

I don't think anyone could have predicted 4, 6, and 7 advancing. Those are some upsets. Blaine is much more physical than Elk River, and just as fast. Refs call a tight game??

1. Blaine: 19 1 2 18 58
2. Centennial: 16 4 2 22 56
3. Andover: 17 4 1 19 54
4. Elk River: 14 7 1 21 50
5. Rogers: 13 8 1 22 49
6. St. Cloud: 13 7 2 21 49
7. Coon Rapids: 13 8 1 17 44
8. Princeton: 8 14 0 20 36

If you look Blaine was the only team that really had success all year, with no hiccups. But the loss of their starting goalie has hurt them. Centennial and Andover had just a couple more wins than 4-7. And 4-7 was determined by Fair Play Points. Not saying they are going to run away with anything... but Elk River, St. Cloud and Coon Rapids are no dogs.

I guess i live and Die with the picks.

Roseau
and I picked Centennial (looks like a long shot now)

If Coon Rapids Goalie stays hot and and they stay out of the peanalty box they could go a long way.

The shots were 45-20 blaine or close to that. So ER played very good "D" Most shots were from the outside, and the ER Goalie is hot right now. The Backup Goalie for Blaine struggled quite a bit and did not look confident. So at the end of the day Blaine had the more talented team, and ER had the better goalie by far. Great Goaltending and "D" = wins in the playoffs.

I don't classify all these games as upsets. During the regular season the teams mentioned were mainly pretty close with the exception of the Centennial vs. St. Cloud match ups. When it comes to tournament time teams tend to step it up and the regular season stats sometimes become transparent

Apple Valley with a big win over Minnetonka in OT!! Wow!
Anybody at the game with thoughts on the game! Shots, powerplay opportunities, etc?

Edina-Burnsville score?

Toughest district - #7 beating #1 at the #7's rink. Anything to do with it?

Minnetonka will have to take the long road to the Regions - are they able to regroup?

Burnsville beat Edina... Burnsville with 2 wins in a row.

Not much on home ice advantage at this age, as mostly parents and siblings attend the games. I am sure if a home team or neighbor team, Bville is in the championship it could draw some classmates and volume.

AV deserves a shake, played 4 nights of playoff hockey in a row, now gets a night off.
All of these teams are asked to push themselves a little more come playoff time. It is a grind.

East is good but they are over rated. Also watching them a little they have a skilled top line but after that the depth decreases.

Have watched them a few times this year and I think I would put that team up against most JV teams I have seen and a few High School teams and bet on East. I think the only way East does not win state is if East beats themselves and in the few times that I have seen them play I have not seen them even show slight signs of unraveling. They can be beat I am sure but when they are clicking (as they always seem to be) they are a tough machine to deal with.
