2AA and 6AA seedings

Pretty sure I'm in the minority here; Edina beats Burnsville, Burnsville ties and beats Jefferson and Holy Angels ties Edina. Looking at head to head games it seems pretty cut and dry to me. Although I think all three teams should cancel a game or two from their schedules and pick up games with the teams they don't currently have on their schedule next year.

2AA
1) Edina
2) Holy Angels
3) Burnsville
4) Jefferson

This section is not so cut and dry.
-Minnetonka has beaten 3 of the 4 teams below them and tied the other, clearly the top seed. After them, things get confusing.
Of the top 5 teams, Benilde has only played Wayzata and Eden Prairie has only played Minnetonka. While there is mutual fault in play when two teams don't play each other, those should be the games used to determine seeds, unless there are no mutual games at all.
-Many have Wayzata at #2...but they lost to Benilde on neutral ice. If Wayzata is that good and Benilde beat them, well, Benilde must be that good too.
-Next I have Wayzata. While they have not played Eden Praire, they beat a good Edina team (3 teams), a team who beat Eden Prairie.
-Why Eden Prairie scheduled Hermantown instead of a section opponent is beyond me. While they lost to Tonka by only 1, the Eagles are the ONLY team in the section without a section win.
-Hopkins played Wayzata good twice, including an OT loss. Any group of kids who overlooks their match up with this team will probably come up short.

6AA
1) Minnetonka
2) Benilde
3) Wayzata
4) Eden Prairie
5) Hopkins

While I doubt either of these sections will end up like this, and I do understand the reasons for putting them differently, considering the head to head match ups, I don't agree with them ending up any other way.

Benilde beat Wayzata at SLP, their home rink. Regardless of which sheet is was on, Benilde practices on both. Wayzata is the Classic Lake Conference Champion with Tonka finishing runner-up (Tonka fans like to downplay this) and Edina in third. Yet both Edina and Tonka (with a lot of victories over weak 1A opponents) get #1 seeds.

All 6AA teams need to watch out for Alex Fonz and Hopkins.

Come on K Dope ...100 out of 100 people would agree that Tonka and Edina play a tougher schedule than Wayzata... so drop the homer logic... Just look at any of the quantitative ranking services SOS (strength of schedule stats). The conference Championship means nothing in sections and it shouldn't for exactly the reason it turned out this year in CLC... it tells a very incomplete story and the coaches know that. Tonka is the best team in the state through regular season and the whole state agrees except you and other Trojan homers. The best anyone has done all year is steal a game at Braemar and tie them in Pagel. Not a very convincing case from a team who lost to Benilde and Jefferson, tied Osseo and and was lucky to leave Pagel with a tie. I hope you would at least agree that the state tourney is a whole new deal.... IMHO the winner will be the team who shows up with the hottest goal tender and the best coach and kids who play hungry... It wouldn't surprise me if anypone in the 6AA top 5 win the section...

And to add to that Wayzata squeaked out a win yesterday against Hopkins in OT 3-2

I agree with shakey. The coaches just have to be on top of it right away. It's the ones that wait too long that get waved back. It can be a huge advantage but some coaches are too dense to use it. I'm always amazed when you see a 1st line out against a 3rd-4th line with a couple minutes left in a period or worse yet, a game. You can just see it coming. Not sure if it's ignorance or what? Just bad coaching. Gotta be just frustrating as h#@@ for the players.

Correct. Ask any top-tier high school coach, they'll tell you the same thing.

I guess I don't particularly care if teams have scheduled certain teams or not. It's obnoxious from a ranking standpoint when they don't play each other, I agree. But I'm not going to hold it against anyone, except for when the system inherently hurts a team for a weak schedule.

Oooo, hockey day minnesota outside. Big deal. While it worked out fine for them, scheduling them Wayzata or Tonka again and winning that game would probably put them at #1, or at least #2.
Beating the Hawks was expected, losing would've hurt badly.

Eden Prairie also doesn't walk around with their heads held high every year claiming to be the best team in the area despite not being willing to play the other good teams in the area.

a wins a win a loss is a loss and a tie is a tie. I dont care if you beat the 83rd team in overtime and your the number one team. Say a sleeper makes it to the ship and a top seeded team beats them by a goal. hey guess what your the minnesota state champs whoops!!! saying that the trojans are legit and I think 6AA was seeded properly. 2AA is edina bville jefferson aha in that order 1-4. Thats set up right as well. For once i dont think anyone can argue about the seedings in these 2 sections

Edina is #1, Burnsville is #2, Jefferson is #3 and Holy Stars is #4. I like Edina winning this section here over Burnsville in a close game.

Section 6 EP will beat Wayzata and Tonka will beat Hopkins. This section playoff should be EP versus Tonka and will fall upon goaltending.

The coach of EP didn't argue the fact of EP winning the Lake Conference enough. EP should have gotten major consideration for winning the Lake with teams like Jefferson, Burnsville, Eagan. A #2 seed would have still had to play Wayzata. It would be nice to have last change for home team, Thats the only advantage.

Sorry lakeguy, like slap shot said, too many losses for the #2 seed. It doesn't make much difference (except jersey color) as your playing the same team in the semifinals whether your the 2 or the 3.

Incorrect on it not making a difference. Last change for the "home" team can turn out to be the deciding factor in games like this. If you've ever played hockey at the Varsity level or beyond, you know how important line matching is.

If he didn't argue that fact (how could you possibly know?) it's because he was astute enough to realize that Wayzata won the Lake with teams like Edina, Minnetonka and Hopkins and they clearly had the better overall record.
