Duluth East beat Hermantown pretty easily in a preseason scrimmage but you have to figure that they will be the toughest team up here. Not sure how Grand Rapids is for sure but heard they were good. If I remember right I heard that Hastings or Edina (was a B2 team) came up for a range team weekend and Grand Rapids either beat them or staid close to them. They really man handled the Hermantown team. All in all I think that the Silver Bay team will have to be one of the tougher ones also since they have a couple of kids (they do not have a Bantam A team) who are good skaters and pretty big so they tend to be those "deal breaker kids" who are good and then get a whole lot better when the shifts rotate in a way to get them on the ice with B2 level kids.

Hastings was a Bantam B team. Rapids this week has Hermantown Fri, Mesabi East Sat Falls Sun and Greenway Thrus according to the web site.

Silver Bay only has ten skaters. They beat Cloquet with seven skaters, Hermantown 7-1 with eight skaters. Last night they beat Duluth East at Fryburger 3-2 with the whole team there. Duluth East's third and fourth line never touched the ice in the third period. They also beat the Lakers and Ashland on the road also. Must have been their 'big players' taking advantage of East and the Lakers B2 players they have on their team when they were on the ice. Wow.

You are right no A team in Silver Bay. TEN skaters in the whole bantam program. A couple might make an A team in Duluth, three or four are B players, and a couple or three are B2 players. So where would you put this team in league play? By beating East and the Lakers by a goal or two i would say its about right, especially is those two teams are definite B teams. Here is a question, how many of East's bantam b's will ever get a sniff at hound ice as a high schooler? Not trying to be a wise ass, just curious to see how many of these kids organized hockey days are over after bantams. Anyone have any ideas?

ill give it to silver bay, im on a team with 11 skaters and we only have 4 players that could make an a team if that. the rest would be on a b2 or even a c team and its tough with few numbers and more than half those numbers being bad. they have ten players and they beat east. that is an acomplishment. congrats to them

It sounds like Superior might be the bantam team to beat this year.

I do not know of any kids who have made it out of the B ranks to East Varsity. Perhaps Karl or east hockey can give us a more defined answer to a very good question.

I think they send those boys over to Marshall

I-falls appears to be the team to beat at the B level in the iron range this year. Beat Greenway (a mixed AB team) 10 - 2 the other night. Team only has 10 players but is a highly skilled group of "rink rats".
