ELK RIVER OVER ANDOVER, F.L. over CDH LOOKS LIKE IT MIGHT BE A PRETTY GOOD SECTION.

It will be a very competitive section, but the winner probably won't be seeded in the top four at state.

Not that they're Much of a competitor, but for the record, princeton Is better than st Francis. I watched them faceoff and it was a tie, however it was the worst reffing I've seen in a long time in favor of SF.

I respect Benik for staying loyal to his school, and he is a sniper, but St. Francis has no chance of reaching semi-final saturday at the DECC. Duluth East or Elk River will be waaaayyyy too much.

Any thoughts on the order of teams after the top four?[I would think the top four are F.L. East, elks, Andover]

1. Elk River
2. Duluth East
3. Andover
4. Forest Lake
5. Grand Rapids
6. Cloquet
7. St. Francis
8. Cambridge
9. Princeton

There are two remaining section games--Cambridge v. Princeton and DE v. Cloquet. So the bottom two could switch, and if Cloquet were to pull off the upset, East would drop a spot. Otherwise, I see little movement over the next 2 and a half weeks.

Going strictly by records one might argue that Cloquet should be lower, but Cloquet got the 6-seed last year and were worse than they are this year.

No way Cloquet should have got the 6 seed last year and they shouldn't this year. The difference with this season, though, is that they beat Forest Lake late in the season last year. A strong section win late in the season helped, so if they do not beat East they should be in the play-in game.

I agree completely. But this is what I think it will be, not what it should be. Cloquet should be the 8 seed if they don't beat East.

Cloquet could always get a higher seed like last year, but I doubt it winless in the section. If they could have beat Flake tonight things would be different but they got blown out, 8-0.

Wow is Cloquet unpredictable. I thought if they had pulled one off tonight, they could have been a number 6 seed and in line for an upset in the quarters again. Either way, I would not look past them is I were Elk River. Maybe the most dangerous 8 seed in the state. How about this possible road to state for Elk River? Quarters vs Cloquet, Semis vs Grand Rapids, Finals vs East  With all that said, I believe the winner of the Flake Rapids game will upend the Elks and maybe even win the section. Should be fun!

I wonder if some of the 7AA coaches might collude to try to give Cloquet the 7 seed, knowing full well the implications of an East-Cloquet first round matchup.

It would be dirty, but is certainly a possibility.

you never know in a one and done tourny, any team could pull an upset but i don't see that happening to the elks. they are 10-2-3 in their last 15 games and their goalie franke has 3 shutouts in his last 5 games, one against centennial and one against maple grove. i think that it will be the elks against east again this year with the elks heading to st.paul.

That's a double edged sword there. I love watching and LISTENING to Tony walk in front of the kids screaming all game long, but I hate watching their style of play on the ice.

This looks right, but who knows? I wonder how much weight goes into how the teams finished the season. Cloquet will have a tough time arguing better than 8 but it wouldn't shock me to see them at 7.

Logistically it makes more sense to have Cambridge & Princeton in the play-in game but that shouldn't factor in. Not sure East wants to play Cloquet in the 7-2 matchup.

I think there will be one upset in the quarterfinals btw.

I gotta have a little reality in Section 8....Rams or Spuds will represent the north.
No, would rather see East, Rapids or Cloquet representing 7AA this year.

Cambridge beat Cloquet earlier in the season so that should ensure them the higher seed. Cloquet had a nice win on the road against FL last year in their final game that helped them make a case for the 6th seed, but the only case Esse can make this year is that they played some teams close. I can't see that argument going anywhere.

Lame - Section 7 should be all northern teams. Why would Pride want an all metro state tournament? I for one will be cheering against Elk River, Andover, and FLake. Go Rapids! (I wouldn't want to play the Hawks come playoff time!)

I hope that the DECC isn't as dead semifinal Saturday, as it was last year! So I am hoping Rapids can beat Flake in the quarters. If Rapids beats Flake I won't be surprised one bit if Rapids pulls off a second upset against the Elks at the DECC.
