Irondale holds off Blaine 2-1 in O.T.
Blaine scored in a very even 1st period at about the 8 minute mark with a power play tally. They very nearly scored a second goal in a scramble around the Irondale net in the final 10 seconds of the period but were stymied. Irondale couldn't get much going offensively all game and Blaine played a great neutral zone trap and dump and chase game to keep Irondale pinned down. Some questionable penalties went against Blaine all day long and it finally caught up to them in the 3rd when they went down 2 players for about 30 seconds. Blaine managed to kill off the first penalty but no long after Irondale finally got one past the Blaine goalie. BTW, the goalie for Blaine tonight was fantastic. Really solid job. It took about 3 minutes of overtime for Irondale to get by the 8th seed, but congrats to Blaine for playing like they didn't want to end their season. I knew when I saw them they would be like your normal 8th seed as their ladies hockey program has been pretty solid the past 3 years. Winner of Champlin Park and Coon Rapids is next for Irondale Tuesday night in Roseville.

Mankato West vs. Hutchinson
Hutch 4 West 3
Carlson to much for West, hard fought game though the girls should be proud it was a great play off game. Issues, officials didn't call much and lost a little control of the game from a physical aspect, but guess it's hockey. Ruckus during the hand shake, Hutch player expressed how bad the West team sucked, not classy at all. a little dig with salt in th wound.

McDonald with 3 goals and the GW with about 5 minutes left in 3rd for Irondale. Lorence had the other goal.

Not sure coaching would have helped. Extremely even game with both sides having multiple chances. Both goalies were outstanding and I can see Coon Rapids is going to be really good next year. Their best player by far was #7 who is a junior and then I really liked #28 who was a sophmore. Pretty bright future there. Game came down to Irondale having 2 elite girls that scored when it was all on the line. Last I heard, Centennial was up 1 going into the 3rd, so that would leave a 1 vs 2 for the chance at state.MNHockeyFan wrote:Wrong choice?Sparlimb wrote:Irondale..... 2 - 0 - 2 ... 4

We were outshot 33-17 and still won. Amazing. Congrats to my HM team. I sure wish they didn't play at the exact same time as Irondale Friday. Joe, you should pm me your cell and we can text each other updates from the two games. I sure wish I could see them play Roseville. I am very worried it will be a blow out, but you never know...joehockey wrote:Hill Murray 4 WB 2

thank you freedom fighter! yes she was playing and if I recall she was playing the second time the two teams played and EP scored the same amount of goals all three games.pickme wrote:I would (put the loss on the one player being out)...C. LaCombe is a great player (there's a reason she's signed a D-1 deal and will most likely be All-State and could be a Ms Hockey candidate). Chaska has not faired well this season...I think its very safe to say, that if #10 for EP plays, EP wins. She basically plays at least 50% of the game and is a dominant defenseman...offensively and defensively. If most teams play without that type of player, they probably don't win.northshore guy wrote:I wasn't at all... my favorite team has played Chaska and EP and I know how they both can play... I was just curious...rmmaiv123 wrote:Yes C Lacombe was hurt but you can't take away the hard work the rest of the EP team put in. Don't blame a loss on one girl being gone.

The Chaska vs. EP game was an excellent contest of two very even teams. I think they played split two conference games that were one goal contests; one in overtime and the other in the last minute plus change. This game could have went either way, with both goalies playing very well. #10 was on the ice for about 2/3 or more of the game for EP. Congrats to both teams.
