Hornets win in shootout 4-3. A great finish to a great Tournament.

So many great stories here at this event and this Championship Final is a fitting finish ...

- Hats off to Roseau for having the stones to stand up to District 6 and include the Fire in the Tournament.

- Hats off to Edina Hockey for playing this game under pressure not to

- Hats off to the EGF families for putting on a terrific BBQ for our boys back at the hotel

- Hats off to Roseau Hockey for a well organized Tournament in what is the HEART of the State of Hockey

Difficult to imagine this younger and smaller Fire team withstanding this type of sustained pressure from these older, bigger, stronger and elite 96 Hornet players ... it looks like men versus boys right now

Agree with that statement. I called Edina to win this vs Wayzata. Surprised it went to a SO with those guys. Edina has some awesome firepower.

Yeah, yeah of course Edina wins again even though it was a nail biter. Once again we get to see the power of the Hornets. Too bad for the young 97 Fire as I hear they had a much harder road. They had to fight by a scrappy Lakeville South team to win 5-2, Battle past Wayzata and their "six foot goaltender" to a 7-1 victory, and play a very talented, hard-hitting Woodbury team to a 6-2 victory all before playing the Hornets to a 4-3 shoot out loss. Granted the Edina 11-TRF 0, Edina 7 -Fargo O, Edina 10 EGF-1 must have been very trying on their arms from all the arm pumping but otherwise they probably didn't even break a sweat . OMG played them to a close 3-2 game but that was it. Of course they won, did you expect anything different?
My Kudos to the Fire, I wasn't there but were told they played like a team, passed the puck and had very solid goaltending and they are all 97's. I know all of us in association hockey want to hate the Fire but my kid is friends with one of them on the team. They are a bunch of nice kids from small assiciations who just want a chance to play good hockey.
They got their chance this weekend and did very well. Hats off to them.

I wouldn't be so up in arms and make excuses for the poor 97's Most if not all of the fire are second year Peewees so they should be good. If we could go anywhere and approach kids to play for our association we would and should win every tourney we were in. I love the competition and would like to play them, however I agree that we should not let a AAA team into association hockey tourneys. There is enough competition out there that we don't need AAA invading winter hockey.

I disagree with dog's assessment that we should seal the borders (or boarders for those on the thread the last time) to out-of-state (or country) teams. Let 'em come, let's beat them, and let them go on their way to win tournaments around the country. If you don't want to play them, then don't.

Dont have a dog in this fight but its funny how you give rightly give Fire credit for 6-2 and 7-1 wins but discredit Edina's 7-0 win and a 11-0 win over a team that beat them couple days earlier and a win over a EGF team you picked as a dark horse and won their pool. Seems your a little bitter.

The dog has a great life and yes I poop on the carpet every once and a while.. After thinking about my statement I agree that we should play them.And let them play. I by no means are afraid of them, heck some of the kids play with my kid in the summer,,,but am worried that AAA might be the wave of the future in winter hockey.. I still think that the two class State Hockey tourney was bad too but still watch. If AAA takes over it will most likely be when my kids are grown and gone, I will probably make some $ off it which will be good.

Also, to set the record straight ... many Wisconsin kids on this team including 2 of the top 3 forwards (my opinion) and 1 of their 2 platooning goaltenders ...

There is a fair amount of 1st year peewee's on this squad and even the many of second years have April-June birthdays that would put them nearly a full year behind the top end association 96ers (July-October 96 kids).

Any time they play the Minnesota Pee Wee A teams it is the euivalent of playing Bantam Minor teams in states (and countries) other than Minnesota (and it's Dakota sub-urbs). Big size and strength disparities in addition to age. The boys (and girl on this team) are handling it better as the season progresses.

I would not throw your hat in the air too high. Looking at the scores over the weekend, why would you beat a team 25-0 and think that it is good hockey? Oh by the why, there are a few players on the Fire that are from very large associations.

Carefull what you are spoutin. the Bantam minor teams would have very few 97s on them. In our association thereare only 4 96ers on the team two of them goalies...Majority of the kids are 97s and we have three first year kids two 98's. And once again you GET TO PICK the kids that can even try out!!!! I don't feel sorry for you one bit and here we go making excuses on why THEY have a disadvantage?

A young defenseman from Northfield has given the Fire the lead. Great kid. Great hockey family ... rich history (St. Olaf's) ... his grandpa (in his 70's) still plays

The Canadian kid just scored ... wears the number of his idol ... 99. The kid has the hardest shot of any pee wee kid i have seen south of the Canadian border ... fills the net ... tough in the corners and in the slot ... good player

Great Tournament, Perfect Hosts, Beer a flowing, Good teams, Upsets and Impressive hockey. Lakeville who has lost to Wayzata 4 times beats them, the fire play impressive hockey and 11/12 olds get to experience a fun association tourney and win some hardware; Edina wins it all when everybody is against them, Wayzata kids get to swim in the hotel pool during a hockey tournament for the first time ever I'm sure, EGF has a month to work hard to beat Edina in March and Warroad realizes they should have a Peewee B team instead of an A team....and I know the hosts like seeing that. I am not bitter just from a small association and tired of seeing Edina and
Wayzata win everything. Aside from selling your house and moving to these suburbs the Fire offers a choice for some of these players.
You like my EGF and Fire Dark horse predictions? Surprised myself. EGF had very few losses coming into the tournament and come from a long tradition of strong hockey. Thought they were pretty strong Squirt A's if I remember right. As for the Fire heard they are getting ready for some big Canadian tourny and have been playing better. Thought they might sneak by Wayzata and they did.

Who do you think your fooling? The 97 Fire have kids from small and large associations (including Edina) who are not happy with their kids development within their associations. These kids tried out for the team and are essentially a multi-association all-star team. Most would make their associations PW A team.
The Edina Hornets are made up of 96, 97 and 98's (mostly 97's) from one association. They are very good. Like many good team, they do have some bad games, but if they were to play any team that has beaten them this year in a 5 game series, I bet Edina would win.
That said, the 97 Fire is still a very good team and played well in a great tournament. Kudos to both teams and the town of Roseau. :lol
