They earned it, give it to them. Although that is a coaches final decision and how they decide that is up to them.

HockeyDad41 asked who is putting the pressure on the coaches to win. You must not be one of the hundreds of parents that beat the coach down because the team isn't winning. Now, I believe those parents are the ones with chips on their shoulders because their kid may not be on the best team or maybe they themselves couldn't prove enough when they played hockey and although it's ridiculous, it happens a lot. And generally, when the parents start complaining, the association finds out at some point and yeah, maybe the coach does get fired, but that's exactly what the coach shouldn't want. They do coach voluntarily I'm sure, but they do it for their passion for the game and for the desire to teach and help kids in more than the game. If that's what the coach isn't there for, then why are they even coaching youth hockey? If the respect between the kids and the coaches and they are on the same page of what will happen in certain situations, then I don't see a problem. The kids should get playing time, just not in the more critical situations. And that to me is sure a lot better than those 3rd and 4th line kids seeing 3 shifts a game instead of 6 or 7.
