Thanks guys for the numbers again :) Its pretty hard to argue, but at this point he feels the need to get defensive because hes not gonna win this battle.. I guess everyone thinks the state they live in is best at something, but he just fails to see the difference between truth and what he wants to be truth.. Oh well, some ppl fail to see the obvious

Look at last year's end of year high school hockey rankings and see how many MN high schools are in the top 25.

Not a perfect science, but when you look at Mitch Hawker's end of the year rankings with MN/WI/ND/MI, MI had 4 teams in the top 25, ND 1, and MN 20...

mj79 wrote:THIS is the question.. A guy is trying to tell me why michigan is such a better hockey state, from HS all the way to the pros, how better players come from MI , they have better teams, better players come out of MI in general etc etc , hes an idiot, so its hard to take him serious as he is making no valid points or iving me any good examples.. So what do you guys think ??
Minnesota's population (as of 2005 census)- 5,132,799

Michigan's population (as of 2005 census)- 10,120,860

Minnesota's total number of registered players, coaches and officials according to USA Hockey - 64,238 (just players 52,333)

Michigan's total number of registered players, coaches and officials according to USA Hockey - 61,491 (just players 52,022)

Michigan makes a strong argument for being the solid #2 but the numbers say Minnesota is still #1 in the U.S.

Now Minnesota should help encourage Wisconsin (and it's similar population) to increase the sports popularity. There seems to be no reason Wisconsin shouldn't have atleast 30,000 registered participants but instead only boasts around 18,000 (not bad, but really not good either). Let's face it, Wisconsin is never going to be a football or bball hotbed but it could be producing great hockey like the Michigan's and Minnesota's and that would be good for the overall state of hockey :D

Why do people from other states keep claiming this? I've never heard anyone from Minnesota claim to be the state of basketball, baseball, football, etc, etc because we're not. Not even close, there's no numbers to support any of it. But our residents still play those sports. Why can't they play hockey and just understand what place they fall in? I've had a "civil discussions" with a friend from Wisconsin in the past about this. I couldn't even believe he was making the claim.

Play for the love of the game, not your location geographically.

Hey i was reading John Buccigross' Mail bag and noticed another Michigan D-bag ragging on MN hockey, State of Hockey. I hope you don't mind but I used a lot of the information supplied on this thread to B slap him.
Here is the link to the comments section. I have to admit it was kind of fun.

mj79 wrote:Thanks guys, Alot of good info there ;) clearly Minnesota holds it's own from all levels hs thru the pros bt it's nice to see actual stats on how many good players come from mn. So if anyone is bored :) who are the Minnesota born NHL players , And who are NHL players that either went to hs or college in MN? Tj oshie I'm assuming is the most recent NHL recruit and Crosby the best?
