Sorry, gents. I was just having some fun, and wanted to see what your responses would be. I didn't mean to have the thread locked. I just didn't get back on board in time to respond before it got locked.
Your responses were very humorous, and spot on. Yes, we do put our pant legs on one at a time, we just have cooler looking clothing. And NO, we don't think we are above everyone else in the arena, but then, why do people point out "Hey, there's a scout!"???
To answer appropriately, and a couple of the other "scouts", like hockeyscout, might also put their two cents in, but here's a little bit of background.
It's possible that whomever was in Hibbing was not there for anyone specific, but just to explore talent. It's a situation that when a tournament is on, a concentrated effort is more effective with multiple teams and games.
It is not forbidden to approach someone if you think they are a college recruiter or scout. However, the recruiter or scout usually will not offer up anything, because we are not there to draw attention. If we are there to scout Johnny Quest, the next thing that happens is that parent A goes to Johnny's dad, and then Johnny's dad wants to come and talk.
However, if you do approach someone, please wait until intermission, as obviously, focus needs to be on the ice or bench at all times. If the scout is there for the first two days, then ask... If you see the same scout at multiple venues for your team, chances are, he has already made contact with the coaches or family.
If we are interested in a player, at some point, we generally make contact with the coach, stop by a practice or two and meet with the student-athlete, talk to the coach, and eventually will meet the parents.
I hope this answers some etiquette questions.

Because of the cooler looking clothing?? That would be my guess.midwesthockeyscout wrote:Your responses were very humorous, and spot on. Thank you for calling my bluff, Mr. Teak. We are arrogant, aren't we?Teak wrote:Because of the cooler looking clothing?? I did say we don't like to draw attention to ourselves during a game. Which means, logos stay home - for most scouts.

Throw on a black windbreaker jacket, grab a notebook/pen, and sit at the far end of the rink and play "scout". It's hilarious! The "real" scouts don't take themselves as serious as this Midwest guy. I know several scouts, at various levels, and they certainly would not post comments on here. Take that for whatever ya want people.
