How bad will this storm be? Duluth is under a Blizzard Warning starting tomorrow at 6 a.m. and going until 6 a.m. on Saturday!. They're talking about 15-18 inches in Duluth through tomorrow night, and aren't even predicting how much more will fall on Christmas Day.
On the bright side, it won't affect any high school hockey games. The flip side, of course, is it could snowbound many people on Christmas Eve and Day. People like my wife and me.
We've been led along by several storms in the past few years which never materialized, but this one simply looks too big to miss us. Blech.
I thought it was supposed to miss Duluth and north... a friend was supposed to drive to her family in Ely, and they're not supposed to be hit...I though she said south od Duluth would be hit...

This might change overnight, but the streets in Duluth were in pretty good driving condition this evening. Some freezing rain and a bit of sleet close to the lake made for a bit of slickness, but nothing preventing us from venturing cross-town.
There are two different weather scenarios being played out in Duluth this morning, depending on whether you live near the lake or up over the hill. Over the hill (at the "official" weather station at the Airport), they have 19 inches of snow with over a half foot more on the way.
Down here near the lake, we're getting more sleet and freezing rain than snow, with 40 mph winds off the lake. Wheeeeee!
Today's plan is simple; hunker down, drink Kona coffee, eat leftovers from last night. After a couple phone calls, our Christmas Day get together has been postponed to Sunday.

Fish, it was very heavy, very wet. It wasn't nearly as bad down here by the lake. We took a drive tonight up to the Mall and the piles of snow left by the snowplows were huge.
It wasn't as bad as they predicted it would be. A few power outages here and there, lots of butt-busting snow for people to shovel and snowblow. Hey, it's Duluth. We know how it can be.
